Proof mark on SR9c barrels? Does your have one?

Quick question, related to another post I have running. I sent my SR9c back for repair and when I got it back, I found an "R" stamped in the side of the barrel, right side, visible in the ejection port right in front of the 9mmx19 stamp. I used/fired/cleaned/dryfired that gun for a month before I sent it in. I'm pretty sure that R wasn't there before. I called Ruger to ask if it meant "repaired" and they told me it's a proof mark, is supposed to be a stylised SR but sometimes one letter or the other doesn't get stamped as deep. All I see is a nice clean R. The question is, does anyone else have this R stamped in their barrel ??
For reference, mine is an all black, April manufacture 332-109XX.

looked at mine with a flashlight and YES I have a R there also. black S# 330-368XX and have never seen it before today, has never been sent in for anything

Mine sort of has it. S/N 332-159XX. I remember mine wasnt very visible to begin with but I polished the side and top of the chamber because whatever they coat it with was coming off and it looked like crap (did the same with my KP944) and now the mark is barely there. My 944 also has something there. Neither has ever been back to ruger for repair.

Yes, mine has the SR, but only the top of the SR is present. There's also another mis-stamp to the top left of the actual proof mark.

Mine has had that since I bought it. Thought it was just knick of some sort. All I can see is the bottom of the R. Kinda looks like a mathematical pie sign.

I'm 60 years old and just got my CT Pistol Permit in July (2010). While I was taking my NRA classes and waiting for my permit application to be processed, I did an awful lot of research with regards to the kind of CCW that I would buy. To make a long story short, I decided on the Ruger SR9C. I like how it looked and how it felt in my hand. I have the all black model. After going to the range about 7 times from July 1 to August 31 and during the process of putting well over 500 rounds through it, I started to keep closer track of the number of FTF's.

About 15 to 18% of the rounds fired were FTF's. I first suspected the WWB ammo, but when I put them in the magazine and re-fired them - they all fired. I doubted it was the ammo and tried Remington, Hornaday, Speer and Winchester Lawman. All had the same FTF results. I sent the gun back to Ruger (in Prescott, AZ) on August 31st. Still waiting for it to come back. Supposedly the FTF problem(s) are being caused by the striker pin. Too light of a hit. Ruger is replacing the striker and/or the striker spring to give it more punch. I'll let you know how this story turns out. I hope it has a happy ending.

It's been an issue for some, the light strikes. Everyone with them has gotten a new Striker Assembly and most everyone who's reported back has seen the issue resolved.

Hey Pokerface did u clean the gun before shooting it for the first time? The reason I ask is because I've read that there's alot of grease in striker housing which can cause light strikes. I pick mine up on Thursday and I plan on taking it home to field strip and clean before firing my first shot. Hopefully I don't run into any problems.

Give someone the benefit of the doubt, said he's 60, to me that might mean he's not so experienced with forums. It could be worse, could've derailed this thread with some negative bs. Also, it would seem we've gotten to the bottom of this thread's topic anyways.

Back to your regular scheduled programming....

Ruger proofmarks their barrels, with an SR. Appears to be stamped by hand, hence the mis-strikes we are seeing. Is there really any more we can add to this thread?

I did get the gun back. Ten day turn-around time from Ruger. They said they replaced the striker/spring assembly. Shop tested it by shooting 25 rounds through it. No malfunctions reported. I'll take it to the range on Saturday.
