Been renting a car for a month for afew years down in Florida in Feb. Last year it was just under $600 for a mid size. This year I have searched every website I can find including my "special deals" from memberships. Like NRA, AARP , Costco etc. Lowest is around $900!!!! What happened? By the way the "special deals "from memberships were among some of the highest prices I encountered. Love the sites that say rentals from $6 a day. What a load of crap. Doesn't exist. Anyone have any sites that are actually any good?

Sounds like the airline that would fly you to Florida for $69... then you had to pay extra if you actually wanted a seat on the plane....

I usually do Hertz...Am one of those 'special' gold card members that actually give you very little, but last year when I was headed to Manchester N.H. for some business and the Sig Academy they wanted $150 a day for a car where Budget wanted something like $90.

Have you tried Budget?
We rent for one day to get us from the airport to our condo and it costs anywhere from $35-$55 for the day.
I would think a longer rental should be less per day, but we've never rented long term. Also, as I'm sure you know, Jan/Feb are the peak months in FL, so you may be seeing some supply/demand/gouging as well.
Good luck.

Another vote for Budget. I used to be a Hertz gold member as I did a lot of business traveling but finally realized Budget was much cheaper and they have great service and new, clean cars.

My wife travels to Cape Cod often and rents an auto for a week. She generally pays around $300.00 for the week. One big NO NO is renting AT the airport. If you can find an 'off airport' location they are less expensive. Even with the cost of a taxi it is still the way to go. She finds the best by checking all; priceline.com, hotwire.com, and booking.com.

after all the car rentals screwed over NRA members, I just gave up on them
Recently I looked into a rental to make a quick roundtrip to Colorado from Joplin Missouri, and it would have cost me over $450 for a week for a vehicle big enough for me to drive comfortably

The airlines I ran across spouted $69 or $99 to Florida, but the return trip was about 3X more expensive, even when both tickets were purchased together.

Is that because, when looking at a map of the US, the North is at the top & Florida is on the bottom - ergo making the trip to Florida all downhill ?
