Need some input on the value of a Ruger Security Six , Stainless with a 2.75" barrel in great shape,Factory wood grips, orange ramp front sight.Just a couple of scratches on the back adjustable sight ( the black part ).He's wanting $450.00 cash,No box or paper work.Is this a good deal or should I pass :?:

Buy it. Seems a fair price for both parties to me.

Now a days that is not a bad price. Interest in the Six series guns is starting to take off. 12-18 months ago you probably could have got it for $350 (or less depending on your location). People have taken sudden interest in them so the prices are going up (drat ).

Prices on the double action Six series have been going up, especially the short barreled ones like the one you describe. If in really good mechanical condition with few flaws to the finish, then $450 would be acceptable, but I would wave four Benjamins and see if he would come down a bit.
The 2 3/4 inch barreled Securtity Six is comparible in size and weight to the 2 1/2 or 3 inch S&W model 19 (blued carbon steel) or model 66 (stainless) and is a stronger gun. Prices on those Smiths are really high if you can find them.
For those that say "I used to see them for 300 dollars", remember that even at a relatively low inflation rate of 3%, today's $450 is worth $350 in 2005 dollars. I've been snapping up almost every LNIB stainless Security/Service/Speed Six that I see as long as my wallet allows it. A short barreled Security Six would be a sweet addition to my 4 and 6 inch versions.

Well I don't think it's a bad deal,Gun is in great shape and Ruger is going to send me a manual for it so I guess this will be my first Security Six.Should pick it up next week and thanks guys for the input.Just one more Ruger to add to my small family .

ADVICE is what we ask for when we already know the answer.

Pass up a $450 "almost perfect" Security Six today and it'll be a long time before you find a similar condition gun, at any price.
$450 is a fair deal today. The eighties ain't coming back, friend.
