My constant companion and sidekick is my 11 year old chihuahua. He has been my buddy since the day I picked him out almost 12 years ago. Especially since I retired 4 years ago.

Like a lot of small breeds, especially chihuahua's, they have anal sac issues that sometime require the vet to express them manually. All dogs have this done at check up time, it's quick and simple, but little dogs sometimes require it more often. Yesterday I took him to the vet for this routine procedure and they found an inflamed area or lump. This often is an inflammation or an infected anal gland which is common. It could also be cancer, which is fast and aggressive, and the prognosis wouldn't be very good.

They are treating him with antibiotics and steroids and said they would recheck in two weeks. If the lump or inflammation is gone we are golden, indicating infection only. If not, we will have to deal with the other.

I would really appreciate any prayers for my buddy Tucker. I know some here may find it silly to ask for prayers for a dog but I treasure this little fellow and he has been a blessing in my life. I also believe God hears our prayers for our furry family members. Thanks in advance.

My Chocolate lab is 12 slowing down big time. Not looking forward to what's coming.
Still pretty active and seems to be pain free.
Good luck with your chihuahua, god bless dogs they are man's best friend! ps

one bullet: I know what you are saying. I just had to put my Old Rottweiler ((( ROWDY ))) that I had, had for the last 12 years down. I held him in my arms, and talked to him. And I told him just how much I loved him, and how much I was going to miss him, during the whole procedure, at the Vets. And I cried my eyes out, like a small child. My prayers are headed You and Tucker`s way for as long as you need them.

I did that twice last year. I know well how you feel.

It is the price we pay for all the love and companionship our pets provide for us. When the time comes, we need to do what's right by our friends. It is always hard.

I don't know if my dogs will be waiting for me in Heaven, but I sure hope God allows them in.

I know how you feel. I've had to say goodbye to quite a few good ones over the years. Currently have a couple 13 year olds that are showing their age, doing my best to keep them healthy. I like the small guys too but I've had a couple labs and setters as favorites. My favorite dog is which ever one I happen to have now. Hang in there Tucker!

Thanks everybody. I'm praying it is simply an infection that will be resolved with the antibiotics and steroids he's taking. He shows no signs of anything being wrong and runs and plays like he's 5 years old. I appreciate everybody's prayers because I know they work.
