My son Mitch is a senior in college, about 100 miles away. His best friend Luke has been to our house, great kid, 1 year younger. His Dad passed away last week, on Luke's 22nd birthday. He went to dinner with Luke and my son, said he wasn't feeling well, so went home early, and never woke up. Apparently a heart attack, he was in his late 50's. The funeral was yesterday.

My heart really goes out to this kid. He lost his mother to cancer in jr. high, so he'll be staying with his grandparents for awhile, who will help him negotiate all the things that he now faces. I thank the good Lord that he has them there to help. My son would have had him move in with him for awhile, but they just rented out the last room in his house 2 weeks ago....

Luke's dad had retired awhile back, and was working at the local hospital part time to keep busy. Mitch said he was a good guy, and he liked him quite a bit.

I got a lengthy text from my son Mitch Sunday afternoon, he was pretty upset. This is the 2nd funeral he's been to this fall, both for the fathers of his 2 closest friends. They hit pretty close to home. I was read the riot act in a round about way, told to quit staying up late on the Ruger Forum (not really) and take better care of myself, for his sake, not mine. And he's right. Life is precious. My father died at 56, his about the same time.

Please remember Luke in your prayers, as he's going to need the strength in the coming weeks and months. He knows that he's welcome in our home anytime, hopefully we can help him along the path that the Lord has chosen for him in some small way.

And remember - take care of yourself for those who love you, not for you.

Prayers from Texas for Luke and his family. This is a difficult time to be certain and may God surround him with peace, strength, and comfort.

May the pain in Luke's heart be eased by the knowledge that his father has now gone on to a better life, but will remain watching over him.
My Sincere condolences to Luke.

Sincere prayers for a young man who has lost so much too soon.

And your advice, related by your son is sage advice.

Prayers from Dallas.

Sebtool, I was just read the riot act from my doctor for the very same reason. Not to be healthy for me, but for my daughter. It's true. She needs me more than anything.

Many thanks to all. I'm sure that the power of prayer will help him through some of the tough times to come, and they are very much appreciated.

He's going to have a lot to take care of in the next few months, as well as keeping his school work up. He's a good young man, and with a bit of outside help, he'll make it through. Many thanks.
