Yes it gets hot out here for a couple months but at least we don't have , tornados, hurricanes , massive floods, ice storms ,
snow storms , tidal waves and tsunami's to mention a few.
In a couple months she will probably be whining about the cold.

It's "hot" here on the coast as well. The funny thing is the news shows are now calling it "dangerous" heat. For Pete's sake, it's been getting hot in summer since summer began. Folks just dealt with it. Today's whiners need to pull up their panties and deal.

Hi,

I had to go to the hardware store yesterday morning, and it was empty. Kind of unusual for early on a Saturday morning. So I got what I needed and headed to the checkout stand, where I jokingly asked the little girl taking the money if everybody had melted or something (108-111 on my back porch the last few days.)

She smiled, then told me her Mom lives in AZ, and she'd talked to Mom the day before. Mom asked how the weather was here, and the daughter said "It's HOT. 102 right now."

Then she said her Mom laughed, and told her "We're praying for it to get that COLD over here!"

My backyard weather station said was was 123 yesterday afternoon 'bout 3:00 p.m. Sorta typical this time of year. We get down to 92 or 93 overnight.

Not QUITE 6 billion degrees. ;) In Phx it's worse because of the many square miles of concrete that gets hot in May and cools off around December.

Dry heat? Phhhhtttt... Anyone who rides motorcycles will tell ya the 'dry heat' thing is a blast furnace. A bit of humidity helps cool it down! ;)

Depends on where you are/look. Flagstaff was 76 degrees (six minutes
ago) according to NWS. It's 85 here, just North of Denver, and Phoenix
(on the NWS map) shows 96 with a forecast high of 107.

If anyone wants cool, try Alaska. Right now they have temperatures that
range from the low 40s (at mountain tops) to well into the 90's.
HOWEVER, in January they will have high temperatures that are not
above freezing, and to 40 and 50 below zero (not counting wind chill).

Like everything else, you pay your money and take your choice. If I had
the money, I'd live in Flagstaff AZ. MEAN Summer temperatures in the
90s, average high temps in the Winter about 45. Snow? Yup, the NWS
says around 90 inches each Winter, but you buy a snow blower.

Pay your money, take your choice.
OR, win the lotto and have several houses. Then you get to complain
about moving every three or four months. :roll:

I wonder if she realizes that it is first off 'summer' and it is Arizona. It is supposed to be hot! I'll trade her "hot" for my "hot and humid" any day. Tomorrow, here in Havre de Grace Maryland, it is supposed to be 97 with a 'heat index' of 110. We won't even talk abut the humidity.

"Dry heat" is right. That was the crazy part. Those temps and 29% humidity. But INSIDE my house it was 88º and 63% humidity. So I opened some windows, and put in a window fan to BLOW HOTTER AIR INTO THE HOUSE to "cool it off". :lol: Made it hotter inside, but oh so much nicer.

As I recall, Years ago when I lived in El Centro, CA, a tornado hit Quartzite, AZ, and flattened a lot of it.

I feel sorry for the poor woman. August is coming. I've lived in the Arctic for 10 years, and now I've lived in Southern Oregon for 8. I don't mind hot summers. I don't mind the lack of mosquitos and no-see-ums. A few weeks with temps in three digits really isn't all that bad. I used to wear a down parka often in summer up North. Some years we didn't really have much of a summer. I don't mind hot weather... as long as I can afford A/C.
BTW- Riding a scoot in hot weather is like a blast furnace but with a mesh jacket and a water vest it's not all that bad. Better than not riding.

It looks like a hot one here too today. I just now came in from our ranch shop and the thermometer outside the window of my office says 48 degrees. Yesterday, at about the same time it read 45 degrees and Yesterday afternoon it got up to 81 degrees about 4PM. This is not our recording thermometer.

We have a recording thermometer on each of our ranches that keeps a permanent record that we record. I have the records of the weather here since 1968 on our South Ranch and since 1987 on our North Ranch.

I haven't even turned the patio mister on yet this year, so it's not too hot in Gilbert Arizona.

Besides, it's a dry heat and that's why God invented beer and swimming pools.

It's a shame she missed the Jasper County fair "retired iron" show. She could have heard the elders talk about the old days when the neighbor decided to grow popcorn and the july heat made the stuff pop in the field and it looked like snow... Or how they had to bale hay with wire because the roll of twine would catch fire going through the guides. Or how the Karlock hired men jumped into the Iroquois river in early August and the steam roasted 30 head of cows on the hoof.

I took a business trip to Scottsdale one summer, and the car rental place gave me a black car with black interior.

The thermometer inside the car read 140 degrees, and I had to take some socks out of my suitcase and slip my hands in them to keep them from blistering on the steering wheel.

The car rental place must like to mess with Texans.
