Polished feed ramp

I noticed while I was shopping for my SR9, some guns have a "polished" feed ramp, others like the SR do not.

My question: Is their an advantage to this? It would not be hard to do, and might be a fun custom thing I could do myself. Could it cause damage, cause some disadvantage that I'm not aware of?

Like I said I've looked at mine several times I don't think it would be hard to do.

As long as the gun functions as it should,,, I'd leave it alone.

A polished feed ramp can help feeding, however there are some pretty strict tolerances that have to be maintained to ensure reliable operation. It is not nearly as simple as just taking a dremel to the feed ramp. In actuality, other than homebrew trigger jobs, dremel polished feedramps are probably #2 on any 1911 gunsmiths list of home brew f-ups.

contender has it right. If the gun feeds reliably then don't mess with it.

I know a guy that messes with everything he buys, guns, cars, refrigerators, you name it, Within a week he has it apart to make it "better" at the end of week 2 it may or may not still be working, at the end of week 3 he is telling you about what a piece of garbage it is and that it was broke right from the factory.

I agree with Contender, if it aint broke don't fix it.
