M77 MK II push feed to CRF conversion

If Ruger has stopped as I have read on other sites doing this conversion who else would be a trusted source to mill off the bottom lip on the bolt of a MKII rifle?
 
Just offhand but I think it'll take a bit more than milling away that bottom lip You'll have to eliminate the plunger ejector and repacle it with a mauser type fo the conversion to work.

You have me a bit confused. If you're thinking of converting an original M77 tang safety push feed to operate like the Mark II, then it would take a lot more work the just machining the lip off the bottom of the bolt. You'd have to eliminate the plunger type extractor, fill in the hole left by the removal, and fabricate a Mauser type ejector. That's just off the top of my head as I did think about it a few years back. The rifles worked fine as it was so I went with Murphy's second law. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

So, the 'push feed' bolt retains the 'non-rotating claw extractor'?
Yes, I have 2 MKII rifles one a 30/06 and the other a 243 that have the fixed claw extractor and even the blade ejector and corresponding cut in the bottom of the bolt body for the ejector however they retain the lower lip around the bottom of the bolt face like the MK! or tang safety rifles had that prevents the cartridge rim from slipping up under the extracor claw until the bolt is pushed home and closed. Transition rifles i belive.

The 2 rifles I have like that are MKII rifles that aren't true CRF like the latter MKII's were

No harm in trying but I would think about calling Ruger and talking to one (or more) of their gunsmiths who might be knowledgable about this conversion and get them to tell you what all has to be done to complete the work.
I for sure plan on giving them call to ask as it's been said they used to perform this work on the MKII's that are set up like mine., however I'm reading posts across the boards from the last couple of years of people saying Ruger isn't doing that work anymore unfortunately
 
I'm very curious to learn what you find out. My absolute favorite hunting rifle is an early MK II RLS 308 that is a push feed as you describe and I would prefer it to be controlled round feed as my later MK II's and Hawkeyes.

Well I guess I stand corrected. All my 77s are the tang safety variety. Kind of makes me wonder it Ruger just used up left over push feed bolt for use in the first run of Mk IIs?

it is a possibility, but the odd thing is that they don't have the hole for the plunger style ejector in the bolt face. I’ll attach a pic below of the bolt face

It looks like all they did was eliminate the step to drill the hole for the plunger. It shouldn't be too difficult to set that bolt face up properly.
