Sorry. The gist is he had a cell phone and gun in the pocket. He reached in and “accidentally” shot the floor. Bullet fragments hit a nearby woman in the ankle.

I have a definite prejudice about gun owners and even spout it in a class I've taught... the average American is totally ignorant of proper and safe firearms handling and the average gun owner is no different.... as for the gun, we can assume it is one of the new highly sought after and revered striker fired guns... probably not a Sig P320 though thank goodness ...

One advantage of the DAO J-frame (and similar) revolvers is the long trigger pull - they're somewhat less likely to fire if the gun is dropped, or some inanimate object gets inside the trigger guard. That was also the reason the early Kel-Tec DAO auto pistols had triggers that needed some effort to use. YMMV, but I have never wanted a target trigger on a concealed carry firearm (some people apparently do)...

As always IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc., etc...

I almost always pocket carry, but always with a pocket holster and always with NOTHING else in that same pocket. Never have had a problem of any kind. I accept the limitation of pocket carry in terms of drawing while sitting in my car.

No sympathy for the guy. And, I agree that many people are not of the right headspace to carry (maybe even to own) a gun. Carrying a concealed handgun comes with a great deal of responsibility attached to it. That gun isn't a toy or a fashion accessory; it's a deadly weapon - one that the owner is totally responsible for. I would ask the person who carries anything in the same pocket as a gun 'did your parents have any children that lived?'

FWIW, how & why anybody carries depends on a lot of things (I don't have to bore everybody with a long list of those things, because I'm not Captain Obvious). FWIW, for a few years I lived in a very nice area, where garden variety critters were the most likely threats. So, I often carried a small auto without a round in the chamber, because I was more likely to win the lotto than run into any muggers, terrorists, or mama grizzly bears with cubs. Definitely a safe way to carry (gun won't fire even if you played 18 holes of golf with it), but obviously not appropriate for every situation or person...

I'm not up on Georgia Law, but me thinks that a "reckless conduct" (with injuries) conviction will purdy-much put a halt to the guy's future firearm privileges....So, even though I hate that an innocent bystander got injured, at least there'll be one less armed idiot running around amongst us.

I was totally against pocket carry until I watched a Hickok45 video on it... He pretty much went over what is posted above but also pointed out that if say you see someone or something suspicious you can actually have your hand on the gun ready to draw and all anyone else sees is someone with their hand in their pocket.

I wear jeans, Levi's 501 shrink to fit to be exact. I have never found pocket carry comfortable, especially when seated. And, I find the bulge in the pocket pretty much tells the world it is a gun in my pocket, even if on occasion I am pleased to see you.
And I don't know about the rest of you, but depending just how happy I am to see a woman parts of me may well be changing size and position.

Back when I first started sweeping I would carry too much stuff in my side pockets at times... I actually got out of my van one time and was walking up to the house and the lady that lived there came out with a drink in her hand to greet me and said, "My, you certainly seem to be well endowed."

There are a lot of high and mighty folks here in something with so little real information about the incident.

Actually when and if I have to drop my drawers in a stall I'm going to be just as concerned with a gun in the pocket as one on the hip.
As for the 'Israeli Carry', depends on the handgun... probably a good idea with these new high flalun' plastic striker fired ones but I'll stick with old school.. at least old by todays standards in a semi-auto... double action / single action disconnect only (no little flippy thing on the side you have to push down before the trigger will pull)
Even though I actually am torn with the thought that the various ones I have hidden around the house might aught to be set this way with out one in the chamber.... maybe I'll take a survey?

Agreed! My Wranglers (which I wear almost everyday) have enough room for a gun and that is IT. If I stuffed both in one pocket I wouldn't be able to get either out without much difficulty. I only own one striker fired gun and it would never be stuffed in a pocket, since I don't have pockets that large.

One gun law I have supported for a long time (and I don't know it exists anywhere) is a requirement for a holster to be used for conceal carry. Too many things can go wrong without an appropriate holster.

Yep, it was those basketball shorts pockets that caused the kerfluffle. No worries here, though, as most of the Ruger Forum demographic probably doesn’t wear them, as they don’t pair well with suspenders and a belt.
