It freaking August...Summertime, and I keep seeing people dressed like it's February!
I mean, It's 85°+, and I'm rocking my usual cargo shorts and a T-shirt...And still sweating.
What the hell is wrong with these people?..🤔

I don't know, but if you can find out what drugs they are on.... I want some... it was 104 here today.

It's 100-110 here every day and the humidity is terrible.
Most of the workers on the job site are wearing long sleeved sweat shirts with hoods.
I wear a long sleeve shirt and straw hat , but it is not near as heavy as some of the ones I see.
Most of them are from south of the border . Some from way south.

In the Central Valley of California we regularly get temps of 100 plus yes it’s a dry heat . You see lots of farm worker wearing sweatshirts in the summer as they work. Talking to them most are Hispanic they say that once they sweat through the evaporation keeps them cool. I was a fire fighter for 35 years and we had to wear a double layer of clothing station pants and t-shirt then treated cotton pants and jacket . Once you sweated enough to wet your clothing it still sucked just not as much.
Also some psyc. Meds disrupt people body temp or their ability to tell when they are hot

85° heat in Maryland is generally also with stifling humidity. I still occasionally wear long sleeve shirts and Wrangler jeans are most all I wear, summer or winter. I will take the El Paso 100° days anytime over what the mid Atlantic area puts up with. Many times an arm covering is the smart way to go.

When it gets to above 100 degrees and you are out in it then extra layers keep you cooler... think about it.... your body temperature is around 98-99.... heat move toward cold... if the air temperature is above your temperature then you are absorbing that heat.... try going on a roof in the summer... mid day the temperature of the roof is around 185... it will cook you.

I wear shorts and tee shirts also. But I read here very often that people say “I quit wearing shorts when I was a kid.” Or men’s legs shouldn’t be seen.

That’s one attitude I cannot figure out at all.

Just as an aside, but people spend a lot of time dressing how they think others will view them. But people are so self absorbed that they are only thinking of themselves, not how some guy is dressed.

The other day it was over 100 and I saw two different people out walking their dogs in the middle of the day. On the cement.

Those poor dogs.

My dad grew up poor, working the fields. I remember him telling me once about a field hand he knew when he was a kid. He said the man would wear long underwear all year round. The theory was that your clothes would hold your sweat so when the wind blew it would cool you. He also said the man only bathed about once a month so the smell was pretty rough when he was around.

Things have changed some, but the old folks wore long pants & long sleeves to protect themselves from the sun. I have seen the time I was working six days a week, 12 hours a day in July on a white rubber roof. We were cutting holes & setting curbs for HVAC units on an Amazon warehouse. I came in from work & took my shirt off & my wife fussed at me for not wearing my shirt at work because of my sunburn. I had worn my shirt all day. Now they have the rashguard shirts that are long sleeved but still cool & are about 50 spf.

I dress purdy-much the same year round.....Jeans, cotton T-shirt, and a long sleeved Wrangler cotton over shirt with snaps and two snap-down pockets. The only difference between summer and winter is that I wear the over shirt open in the front during hot weather, and I might add a long-sleeved thermal undershirt between it and the T-shirt if it gets cold enough during the winter.....
I haven't worn short pants since I was 9 or 10 years old, nor would I....No flip-flops, jellies, or sandals neither. I ain't a kid any more....Grown ups are supposed to dress like grown ups. The fact that doing so allows me to easily conceal a full size service pistol is an added bonus.

DGW

I remember in the 60s and 70s in Calif at the beach you could always tell the relocated invaders from the east coast, east usa, or midwest that moved to Calif because they wore Speedos at the beach and scared all the local Calif girls away     ............... :ROFLMAO:

I just had my fourth MOHS surgery. I now wear Columbia lightweight long sleeved fishing shirts and wide brimmed hats for protection from the sun. I still wear shorts but the 100SPF lotion is not an option.
Many decades on the water has taken its toll and protection from the sun is something which is not an option any longer.

So to clarify, I'm taking about people running around in 85-100° Temps with 75%+ humidity wearing stiff, heavy denim jeans, jackets and/or hooded sweatshirts, and even toboggan caps!
That is NOT the way to stay cool in such a sauna like environment, and not only is masochistic behavior, but borders on insanity IMO...🤪

I wear shorts everyday, and everyday I wear long pants over the top of them😁.

Depending on what I'm doing I tend to wear shorts around the house. Jeans pretty much everywhere else. I wear jeans and a t-shirt to work pretty much until it gets cold. I have noticed more people wearing hoodies year round. I know some of them are pretty light weight but I don't get it. Some of the guys I work with wear long sleeved T-shirts pretty much year round. I don't really get it but whatever. It works for them.

When it's hot, I dress for comfort PERIOD
As do the vast majority of folks that I see around on a daily basis.
That nonsense about short pants being only for kids is an outdated concept. And, I can't help but notice that many people far older than me tend to agree! 😉

My attire doesn't really change throughout the year. Jeans and a Hawaiian shirt if I'm "going out". But, mostly I wear a long sleeve Tee. Get skin cancer and the shorts and armless shirts go away real fast. Oh, I do use sun block on my face, neck and arms if they are exposed to the sun.

Speaking of the face, my skin cancer doc made an interesting observation when he first treated me for the areas on my face. He said nature gave men beards for a reason. And he had rarely had to remove cancerous and pre cancerous spots from under a guys beard.

I don't understand the vast majority of people around here wearing black tee shirts in 90*+ weather while riding their motorcycles. It has to be the "cool" factor. I just cook in a black tee. Now I wear only white long sleeved tee's while on my bikes during the summer

Yup, I'm going thru that right now and it's a real PITA :(

I’m a native Floridian, and grew up in the Coppertone generation, Coppertone dark tanning oil, not sunscreen 😉. I also spent ~14 years in the Army, and our normal headgear in garrison was a small-billed patrol cap, with no protection for your ears. For the last twenty-five years I’ve taken to wearing wide-brimmed hats (Tilley Airflo) and long-sleeved UPF shirts. I wear khaki slacks to work, but cargo shorts most of the rest of the time. I dress for comfort and sun protection, and use sunscreen on the backs of my hands and my legs when wearing shorts. I also have quarterly visits with the VA dermatologist to treat the top of my head, ears, and hands. My wake-up call was in 2008 when I was 44, when I had basal cell carcinoma removed from my left forearm. (We wore our BDU sleeves rolled up to our elbows in garrison during the warm months).
