Been looking at several 40 cal in a semi compact size. Looked at the S&W M&P 40 compact and the XD Sub-compact and the XDM 3.8 compact 40. Like the look of the M&P but the trigger was horrible. The XDM was very nice but their price is a bit high. So when I looked at the SR40C I was sold. Took it home and took it apart cleaning and re-oiling it. What a nice finish on the external and the internal housing and parts. Going to take it to the range tomorrow and put a couple hundred rounds through it. I choose the all black finish over the stainless steel finish, just like the looks better.

I've had my sr40c for a few weeks now, and have put about 300 rounds through it so far. Seems like a very well made gun, comfortable to hold, and easy to conceal. I'm not sure if is the relatively small size of this gun, or the 40S&W caliber (this is the first gun I have owned in this caliber) but it is definitely a "snappy" firearm. My thought on purchasing this particular pistol was that it would be ideal for concealed carry (size, capacity, caliber) and I think I made a good choice. I have two other Ruger semis and have been very satisfied with both of them (P97 and LCP).

If I was to buy a .40 it woudl be the SR40c hands down. But I agree with Vito, .40's seem to be a bit "snappy" and I'm not sure I can shoot it one handed, hence I'll stick with my SR9c for now.

A great pistol, have carried mine for a year now, except in really warm weather. My BSR-40c has been totally reliable and it is more accurate than i am. You made a good choice.

Love my SR40c. After 500 rounds I have no problems patterning a 10 round mag in 10 seconds.

Have a picture of my first target with the new SR40C but guess I can't post it, must be not enough posts. Finally leaned how to use photobucket with the IPad.

Some acronyms, abbreviations, and mnemonics are pretty well universally recognized, but others not so much. EDC is one I had not heard before. Maybe I can use OOSPC, or Occasional Out of State Pocket Carry since I can't carry legally here in Illinois. Or DKMA for Damn Kimber Misfired Again. Or WAFIOR, for We'e All F...... If Obama is Re-elected (couldn't resist).

I've really enjoyed shooting my SR40c. It's surprisingly comfortable for a compact .40, not nearly as snappy as I was expecting. The gun is accurate and totally reliable so far after eating about 800 rounds of store bought and my reloads. Nice handy size too. With the 15rd magazine there's a lot of firepower in that pistol.

Love the SRc's (both 9 & 40)
Great carrying guns and very good shooters.
Love mine. They will be among the last to go, if I had to.

Lateck,

I agree with everyone else. My 40c has been a great little weapon so far. My wife even prefers it over my old S&W 9mm.
I've put close to 1000 rounds down the barrel of my 40c, qualified with a 100% for my work and 98.8% for LEOSA (damn night firing!). All the guys at work who are carrying that "G" gun like the feel of the Ruger better.
Probably one of the best weapon purchases I have ever made.

Can only echo the above statements. I just passed 2400 rounds last week in a session I fired 170 rounds. Never in those 2400 rounds have I had a failure of any kind. I take very good care of it though. I've run it nearly bone dry, and also over oiled its worked fine in both conditions. Well I can't really say that, any well oiled gun always moves and feels better, but it never failed to go bang at least. I've heated it up quite a bit also in rapid fire and multiple magazines without a break in between.

Its worth finding a video on youtube about how to detail strip the slide. I will warn you an AMAZING amount of powder builds up under the loaded chamber indicator. Not that I can even think of a way this would cause a failure. I clean the extractor every 1000 rounds or so as well. Learn how to remove the striker assembly as well and clean that out every 400-600 ish rounds.

That's great to hear about the 40C. I did strip the gun down and clean it initially very well including the striker assembly. Was surprised as it didn't have a large amount of excess grease or oil build up in it. I really like the grip and feel of this pistol. The sights seem a bit narrow at the back with a slender blade on the front. Maybe it's just my aging eyes. Sure does shoot pretty well though. :D

You know I really think the word about the "goo" in the striker channel got back to Ruger at some point about 6 months ago. If you notice from the posts, I've heard no recent complaints about it from new guns which is great. I can't be sure, its just that the complaints about it seem to have dried up. Just a hunch.

That's true as it didn't take much cleaning. I originally wanted an XDM 3.8 in 40 but couldn't find one at the time. I looked around and looked at the SR40C and really like it. Very glad I went with the Ruger.

I've been looking at the xdm's as well, I have no doubt its a really good gun. I'd probably own an XD of some sort if money was no object, but it is for me. The new compact .45 caught my attention as well but the price point seemed a bit high for what it really was. They are doing some great things over there with the XD series. I guess what a lot of this comes down to is how much better is it? I've noticed from field stripping a few semi auto's that they are remarkably similar in their internal workings when you inspect them.

I had a XDS and did not like it just to many issues and I sent it back to Springfield but still was not right. Traded it for a Sig 1911 compact 3 inch 45. Very nice 1911, I would buy the XDM and almost did except couldn't find one here locally. I like my 40C very well and glad I went that way.
I also have an XD 40 and put a Powder River Trigger kit in it and it shoots pretty good but still not as well as the Ruger.

Once they got away from the barrel links in Brownings design and adopted the cam down system there really doesn't seem to be much reall differences other than detail among the various new auto loader designs.
