Here is the funny part. I have not put anything on Photobucket since they first starting this charging people crap but now my piddly little 267 photos has reached their limit for a free account. They don't say what their free account limit is but considering that their new account lets you store 2500 images, my little 267 images is hardly even a drop in the bucket.

Well, #^%$& them. They aren't getting any money from me.

I get the same emails about every other week. I chalk it up their automated system just doing mass emailings to all registered users - just like any other advertising email I get and just delete.

Hell, I would have gladly paid them the 5 bucks a month, seems more than fair to me.... the $300 a year they wanted was just a tad out of my price range.

Well, it was $3 a month or $30 a year to be ad free and have unlimited storage before their big crash. Their free services were funded by the plethora of advertising. $30 a year was a bargain for the services I received. Then folks figured out how to pirate their service and be ad free without paying for that upgrade. Even the folks on this forum shared how to do this pirating.

Then, I suppose when photobucket couldn't fund themselves any more, they did the pirating of their own, holding many folks photos at ransom. It never affected me, as I was a paying member. I still saw the writing on the wall and bailed, as I knew eventually my grandfather-clause would expire. And I was also lucky, being a paid member, I had complete and easy access to my photos to move them wherever I wanted

And it's all too bad, as photobucket was the best and easiest of any of the hosting sites I've used.

If Photobucket had offered this $4.99 a month deal when they first started with their $300 a year deal I would have been ok with that. It seems like a reasonable amount. That $300 a year crap was unconscionable. I told them were to stick it and closed my account. I have since found out that since I run a blog that the few photos I need to post at other web sites (like here) I can "host" free on my blog and link to that so I don't even need a separate photo hosting site now. If PB hadn't been ridiculous with their initial charging scheme and had made a reasonable offer like the one the OP posted about I would have gone for it and probably never figured out I could host my images off my blog. Oh, well $5 less a month for them now and $5 more in my pocket because of it.
