Nita had gone to church, and I was home alone. The phone rang, and I answered.

"Is Nita there?" a young lady's voice inquired.

"No, she's not" I responded.

"Do you live there?" she continued.

"Ma'am, I reckon I do. I've been her husband for the last forty three years."

"Are you over eighteen?" she continued.

And I couldn't think of a single good comeback.

Maybe you could have said, "well not in dog years". :P

Or maybe, "yeah sweetheart, several times".

Should have said . . . . Nope! Not a day over forty-eleven-teen.

Then in a stage whisper:
HEY Billy-Joe-Bob . . . . CLEAN UP THAT BLOOD!
CAN'T HAVE ANYONE KNOW WE WERE HERE!

You know how hard the new math is......

There is always the old... I'm sorry but I'm definitely not 18.

Or if you are feeling particularly snarky at the moment... Why are you calling strangers looking for minors? Are you some kind of sicko?

Then there is the classic "I'm sorry I'm only 29." (or 60 in your case. )

Or when the intro is the "elect so and so committee" the standard answer is "I'm sorry my mommy told me never to say how old I am over the telephone."

Maybe she was from an outcall service - so you should have asked how much she charged!

HAven't had this happen yet, but now have some great ideas....

On a side note, I live in the house I grew up in, did not change phone # when Mom & Dad moved, still get phone calls for them occasionally Usually get Long "Dead Air" pause then "I'm Sorry" when I sadly say they have "been gone" for about 13 years now.....

I got a call from a woman who said I had won a trip . Told her I didn't want it. She asked me why. I started to sob and said because lady I am totally paralyzed. She apologized and started to cry too.
