Peter Tork - The Monkeys... RIP

Peter died from complications surrounding a rare form of cancer that he'd been battling for the past 10 years or so. Truly a bright, warm and funny guy.

Somehow in the last year I caught a radio discussion about The Monkeys and did not realize that Tork was a musical genius that could play all kinds of instruments... he played the duffus on the show but was really the smart and best musician of the group.

Although Mr Tork only played on a few albums, the music itself still stands with the best arrangements (which Tork wrote/arranged) of the 60's. And that is saying something.

Talent cannot be faked. Peter Tork was outstanding in his field.

Yep, Mickey and Mike. It's hard to believe they're getting up there so far, maybe because Davy was only 67 when he left us. I always liked The Monkees because it seemed they simply enjoyed what they did, either musically or on the TV show. They took some flak for being a "made for TV" band, but an article I read earlier suggested the were the perfect mix, and nobody else could pull off what they did. Dunno if that's true, but it's a good thought. I don't think we appreciated the music as much as the characters back then, but today the music seems better with age. RIP, Peter and thanks for all the fun memories.
