IIRC, it was the other way around. The Maxwell House coffee commercial became the bases for the song.

Funny how a sound can trigger a scent memory. Maxwell House was my parents brand. I can smell the percolator of over almost thirty years ago.

I swear that my mothers old percolator made the same sound as the one in the MH ad. And she used MH coffee too. But it could be my memory playing tricks on me again.

They were fun to watch and hear. I haven't had percolated coffee since camping in the 80s.

My sisters said that I so loved the Maxwell coffee ads as a child, that I would stop whatever I was doing and bolt to the television. My father found it humourous and would "sing" the Maxwell House coffee song to me.
