Pachmayr pre-fit pad

I need to put a pad on a laminated .338 MKII. I am feeling too lazy to do a regular grind-to-fit, and am considering a Pachmayr pre-fit. The #01704 model is supposed to fit wooden stocked M77 MKIIs.

Anyone here ever try one of these?

I have fitted several grind-to-fit Pachmayr pads on various rifles and shotguns. Very good pads, but unless I'm replacing an older pad, I always shorten the stock to maintain the proper LOP.

I've never tried one of their pre-fit pads, as they wouldn't fit anyhow after the stock was shortened. Get one and try it for fit before you actually mount it.... if you don't like the fit, just return it.

I put one on my 358 win hawkeye.It fits but was too wide and i ended up grinding it to fit and look better.

Thanks for the response. It is always good to hear from someone that has actual experience with the specific product in question.

How much too wide was the pad (business card, 1/16", etc.)?

I put one on my M77 w/ synthetic boat-paddle stock. I needed longer screws than those provided, but the fit was perfect.

The Pachmayr Pre-Fit arrived today. Other than drilling new holes for the screws it is a no-fuss no-muss deal. The fit is perfect from heel to toe, and a very tiny bit wide (I can just barely feel it with a fingernail) in one spot near the middle.

The pad is vastly softer than the stock Ruger butt pad, and the new LOP is .34" longer than stock.

Very nice.
