Has anyone found a replacement for the factory red recoil pad on the M77 rifles? I have a 458 and a Roberts that need new pads. Will a new pad from a Hawkeye fit? I considered order two new ones from Ruger to install on the older M77s. I am able to install and grind the pads to fit. Thanks and appreciate any insight you can share.

If you are talking about the walnut stocked tang safey model, you are pretty much stuck with grind to fit. On the ones ive tried there is just enough variation on the wood stocks that the prefit pads don't quite match. I tried a couple, one i remember was a prefit limbsaver that I put on a whelen. The holes didn't match and a bit of recoil pad stuck out a bit and other places wood stuck out. It was OK for load development, but it looked bad. Some other ones i tried were much worse. I've gone to grind to fit.
Just my experience.

I may be able to help. Is this what you have? I believe they are known as the "Goodyear" version of the redpads for the tang safety M77 rifles.
