p95 help

When reassembling me p95 it just isn't going back together right. The clip doesn't fit in without coaxing. The slide also sticks a half inch. I made a thread on firingline with pics. here it is.

I don't want to be too pushy, but did you read the responses to your post at the firingline?

I think Tkarter above maybe right.... I think you may have the spring and guide rod under the barrel set up wrong... the reason the 'clip' (IT'S CALLED A MAGAZINE OR MAG. BY THE WAY) won't go all the way in is because the ejector is still down... it will flip up once the slide and everything is back together right. don't try to put the magazine back in until you have the guide rod, barrel and slide back together right.

can you get the slide back off, that is the first question.

Yes the slide comes off and on, it just gets stuck where the picture shows.

It is an easy mistake to make. I have done it wrong once and had the same problem.

That doesn't mean I didn't screw up somewhere. I'm assuming I did.

I'll take more pictures of how I'm putting them back in and try to post them later.

That video shows it better than I can explain it but I know the barrel or guide rod won't stick out if it is put in correctly.

I figure you easily understand the ejector being up or down.

I push it down both to take it apart and to put it back together. Also noticed it only catches on safe. The magazine trouble is both on and off safe.

That picture on the other forum clearly shows the guide rod is not in the correct position.

Watch that youtube and make sure you pay attention to the guide rod and how it goes into the barrel.
Until you get the barrel and guide rod in correctly it is not going to work.

Like I said until one understands it is fairly easy to put the guide rod in upside down and think you have it correct.

If you have a gunsmith close take it to him and let him look at it.

At the risk of sounding like a complete newb...

I am in NY, so I'm restricted to a 10-round Mag. I noticed it is almost impossible to insert a full 10-rd mag into the gun if the slide is closed. it's like the springs in the mag don't let the rounds compress enough.

also, I tried chambering a round like in the vid posted earlier, and it seemed to hang partway into the chamber.

Does the gun just need some break-in (it's brand new, never fired by me) os am I doing something wrong? Does the safety have to be off to rack a round?

I'm using Mec-Gar 9mm Luger ammo in it, if that helps. Hope to get to a range soon to actually fire it.

sounds like a real tight spring in the mag to me. you might want to try some other 10 rounders...

does it have the same problem with only 9 rounds in the mag?

No, it does not, and I changed the top round and it doesn't seem to happen that much.

It is almost like the ejector is a little tight....


I'm going to wait til I've had some rounds through it before I panic.

I don't think that ejector thingy has any play in it... I bet it's the mag spring.... Ruger mags are tight, that's why they include that little do-hicky thingy for helping load the mags.

Yes the mags are extremely tight. I think when mine were new I tried loading 15 cartridges in and the mag would not lock in place. Could've been 16 but I dont think that would happen. Load the mag fully and empty it a few times and that should loosen it up to allow you to fit in 10 without clearance issues.


Did you correct your mistake? Was it either the cam being inverted or the ejector being up when it needs to be down?

When I go to reassemble my P95, the ejector is always up when I put the slide back on. I always try to remember to push it back down. In the manual it just states to push it down before disassembly and after assembly inserting the mag will push it back up, but it always goes back up during the course of action.

yep, it flips back up when you pull the slide on....and I usally rack the slide back and forth a few times before I ever reload..

I think the original poster with the slide messed up and the barrel wrong was not the same person who has the mag. problem.
