It's been years since I disassembled my P95. While putting it back together again I messed up the process. I have the slide on but not the slide stop and I can't get the slide on or off. Hopefully if the pictures post someone can offer some suggestions.

Bill

Last night I was laying in bed thinking about this and came to the same conclusion. This morning I looked at it and the thing is definitely flipped up. So far I have not been able to flip it down using the wire from a hanger with a little bend on the end. There must be some trick to doing this. Thanks for the reply. Bill

Wrote the below before reading the OP's latest post.... you may have tot seriously tap on the slid some first:

You can make a metal hook with a coat hanger or such and also pull it down by reaching up through the mag well... but sometimes you still have to knock the hell out of the slide to get it to go forward after this... then make sure the guide rod is centered, ejector is still down and put it back together.....

I'll offer to do this but it will have to be later in the week: I'll lock one of mine up like that and figure out the exact problem and how to fix it if you need me to. I've have a P95 do this about 3 times but it's probably been 10 years since the last time.

Thanks everyone for the help. I did manage to get the thingy to go down. It is about at a 45 degree angle. I hope that is the proper position. But I am still not able to get the gun assembled. With the gun laying on the table the slide is forward with the guide rod and about 1 inch of spring exposed. When I bring the slide back I don't see the hole that I am supposed to push the slide stop pin through. I know why I switched to revolvers many years ago.😉 Any additional help for this situation will be much appreciated. Bill

Thanks. Please give me a hint about what I have to do to get it all to line up correctly. Everything seems to be locked in place. I'm getting to be an expert on getting that thingy thing to go up and down. I bought this gun about 30 years ago and haven't used it much. I'm also not young anymore and struggling with this has caused a problem with the arthritis in my hands and elbow. Thanks. Bill

This is where I am right now. Please see picture attached. Bill

Stupid question but ….. have you pushed the ejector back up again, then moving it back down? And ensuring it’s ALL the way down?
Think sometimes I wiggled or applied pressure back and forth on the slide while I did that too.

You’ll win it and will remember next time it happens.

In order to get the ejector to move down I have held the slide forward against the spring pressure. The ejector snaps down to approximately a 45 degree angle. I believe it is all the way down. I am guessing that the guide rod with the hole for the slide stop is too far forward so I don't see it in the hole when I move the slide back. I think this whole mess started because when I put the slide back on I didn't have the slide all the way back to the "witness" mark on the frame. But I am not positive. I'd like to know what I did so I don't do it again. If I ever get this to function again.:)

I'm pretty sure you've got to knock the heck out of the slide to get it to come back off... use a rubber mallet.
Seems like I had this happen to me once and that was the solution.
Usually this is not needed.
But then make sure the ejector is still down and put it back on... there should be two little indents ... one on the slide and one on the frame above the grip on the left side and these have to line up to get the disconnect lever to go back in....

Or, if you can stand it.... just wait until I get home in a few days and I'll duplicate your problem and make a video of the fix... if I can.

Thank you blume357. I really appreciate your efforts and all those who have contributed. I can get the slide back far enough to match up the two lines. But I think the guide rod is not moving back with the slide, if that is possible. So I can put the slide stop back in but I am pretty sure it is not going through the metal ring to make the whole mechanism lock into place. I remember many years ago putting a gun in a vice and using a piece of wood and a hammer and hitting it. I guess it was this gun. I'll wait for your video. Many thanks. Bill

My $.02 for what it's worth, that slide stop needs to come out. This picture tells me It looks to be behind guide rod hole. Take the stop out, pull the ejector down till it stops, & start again. As roylt mentioned the slide, guide rod & barrel should stay together as the holes line up. You should be able to insert the stop, then move the slide back enough to finish seating the stop.

PythOn, your analysis is correct. Except that the slide stop is only in there so I don't lose it. The hole in the guide rod does not come back far enough for me to see it through the hole in the frame. The problem is that I can't get the guide rod to move back so I can insert the slide stop pin. Bill

I've had this happen a couple of times & never could see the problem.. After a couple of tries it would go on no problem. My guess is the cam block moves to one side a bit & hits the narrow slot area before the trigger. That seems to be where it gets hung up. The cambloc is the only thing that has to pass through that slot & it has a bit of side movement when installed. Definite maybe.

Thanks. I actually put it away last night and went on to other things. Bill

I can't get the slide off. It can go back and forth but won't come off the frame. Bill

There is nothing keeping the slide on once the ejector is down and the slide stop is out. Something is broken or in a bind. First thing I would do is use the room ahead of the dust cover to see if you can bump the camblock assembly left or right and up and down. Like Python stated it may be slightly off center and binding. I like hittman's idea of letting it set for a week. I will add to the idea a little...take a can of CLP and give the gun a good dousing EVERYWHERE. Put it in a zip lock bag for a week and roll it around each day for the week. When you get it out just wipe it down and see if it comes apart without much fuss. As a bonus the gun will be clean after all of this. I noticed a lighter color to the slide rails in your pic. What are you using to lube the pistol?

Also, before you start beating on it...try to use the flats on the rear of the slide to push the slide off the frame. Have a friend help you move the cambloc/guide rod while you apply slight pressure from the back of the slide. Same with Pythons idea on the trigger. And double check that the ejector hasn't partialy came back up just enough to snag the slide or interals. It will come apart without destroying it.

Does this have the assembly like a P345, or is it like a P85 or like a p94 with a link, but with a captive guide rod and spring assembly? I will see if I can get an exploded view of the internals.

This has the same guide rod type as the p345, sort of. Just make sure you didn’t put it on upside down. I did that on one of these one time and had to knock the slide off with a mallet as I couldn’t get the slide to move back beyond a certain point. It got stuck.

It's almost always fixable with a simple, firm procedure. The key is to overcome the spring pressure and re-align the takedown notch.

I think I previously mentioned that I can move the slide back against considerable spring pressure to align the reassembly points. But I can't see the hole in the guide rod through the hole on the side of the slide. The guide rod assemble is apparently not in the proper place. I think this is somewhat like when you close a drawer and the contents shift and they you can't open it. I'm sure that the factory knows how to handle this situation because if it happened to me it has happened to them and they don't throw out guns.

Maybe it’s worth a call or email to Ruger ….. just to see if somebody willing to talk with you.
These are the days we miss old members like “coffee pot”.

View the assembly-disassemble video in #25 several times and you will be able to assemble and disassemble the gun
