Son and I acquired this 1947 "Cub Special"PA-11 after it had a prop strike and outboard front spar damage. We repaired/spliced the spar installed new parts and recovered the outboard portion of the wing and repainted the whole wing to color match the paint. We also fixed or replaced other small items.
A VERY Famous and well known Cub Specialists and a friend of ours, with a little help from Grandson and Son, performed the Mighty Continental C-85-12s overhaul with new Superior's Millennium Cylinders.
It flies and looks GREAT for a 74 year old plane

Son and DIL ready to go fly it.

You only repainted one wing??
Looks like more than that.
That thing must have been in nice shape.
Did it's previous owner ground loop it?
Guessing some kind of climb prop to get it off
the ground in the summer time...

My buddy stopped a few days ago. Landed on my field. He said it is a 1947.

That looks like a very nice 1947 PA-12 Super Cruiser with the original paint scheme. It looks like it has been modified with Super Cub gear and tail surfaces and a 150 HP Lycoming O-320. Makes it really nice
They are very nice 3 place planes. I flew mine, that I restored when I was 24, all over the country with Wife and Son.

Yes it came out of the restoration shop about 5 years ago and is in VERY good shape. The owner taxied the wing tip into the side of a hangar door which caused it to spin the plane around and got the prop/engine
Since we are in HOT Texas we put a 72 Dia.X 44 Pitch climb prop on it. But it will still cruise around 95-100 which isn't to bad for a 85 HP Cub..

The previous restoration explains it......it just looked too good!
And he flies a Citation?
What cracked the spar on the Citabria, just being a Citabria, or did it get close to
something also?
Nobody gets in a Cub to actually go someplace so loosing a bit of cruise is no big deal if it
actually gets off the ground. I think I've seen/heard of people running ...x 40 and 42 pitch on some.

I almost missed this Cub. Another fantastic bird. A real two-fer today. Thanks for posting.

Does your grandson still have the Carbon Cub? Your family has more real airplanes than I do model airplanes, ...almost. :D

The turn & bank indicator in the Cub Special looks a lot like one we sold when I worked rebuilding instruments to make money for collage. They were modified from the ones like installed in your Citabria. At that time, the company was located in Corpus Christi, but later moved north of Austin where it is today.

Jim,
When Grandson, Son and I started the Cub project we knew it would have to be sold when completed. It was just to much money invested, for at that time Collage Student to have invested. It was too be more of a learning process for Chad and a family project for the three of us.
I also wanted pass on some of my old time skills to Trey and Chad while I was able.
The Cub sold to the first person to look at it and with a very good profit for Chad.

Yea we have a few planes we are up to 7 flying and one to build
