well, one of my friends and fellow manager gave me this for my retirement and celebrating my birth year!
I'm planning to open it on my official retirement date March 1st :D

That isn't even close to big bucks for bourbon.....even for that brand that has $3,000 plus bottles readily available.
Heck just go into a Total Wine & More store.....they have bottles that would blow your mind (and wallet).
We have a Hy Vee grocery store with a huge liquor department. I don't drink, but a friend works there.
They have some pricey stuff too. I can't imagine why anyone would pay that kind of money for a bottle of booze.

My son's FIL is a bit of a blow-hard and one visit during Easter he brought out a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue label and a bottle of Louis XIII Cognac that (according to him) cost about $2500.00. Now I enjoy a good Scotch, but well over $200 for a blended Scotch? It must work for them because they have had it for several years, and I see it at some of the finer bars, selling for upwards of $15 for a shot. I tried it once, and while it was fine it wasn't worth anywhere near the price. I look for the single-malt scotch, and rarely pay more than $50 for a bottle, and that bottle will generally last me for close to a year.

I can see why. Sourced in Texas, bottled in Colorado and Montana. Fake. If it ain’t from Ky it ain’t real bourbon. They even source from Tennessee (shudders) ewwwww

I received a bottle of Blanton’s the year before last and a bottle of Blanton’s Gold last year from an appreciative upper manager. It only comes out for special occasions so I haven’t quite finished the first, and the Gold is still sealed. I (literally) “cut my teeth” on Jim Beam. On the rare occasion that I drink anymore it’s either Maker’s or Buffalo Trace.While up in NH/Maine/Massachusetts this past week, celebrating our 44th anniversary, I needed some bourbon for our last night. Went to a local store in Gloucester and got a small Bulleit bottle, paid for it, and halfway turned around to leave and my eye catches this on the shelf behind the cashier, all by itself.

Looking for a Christmas present for my son. Normally drinks, Maker’s Mark or Eagle Rare. I want something different. One thing he told me he does not like Rye. Anyone can tell me if this is a decent drinker?
Eagle Rare and Makers Mark are very different straight bourbons, taste wise. Penelope you picture is blended. But then everyone has their own tastes/notes. If he likes bourbon and experiments with them I'd recommend a tasters log book. Pretty neat. I still have a fairly large collection of Bourbons and Ryes. I had a lot of fun completing the log for each bottle and comparing. I've pretty much narrowed down my buys to a few different Bourbons/Ryes from Buffalo Trace and Wild Turkey brands. My favorite from those two is Russell's Reserve 10yr or if you can find it Russell's Reserve Single Barrel.
As for Rye's he should try several. I was never much of a Rye drinker. But I tried Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye, and even 101 Rye and liked it. My favorite Rye however is Woodford Reserve green label.

Good mixed with Pepsi
Once or twice a year I'll splurge for a bottle of Jefferson's Ocean. It's put in barrels, then onto a ship for 6 months to slosh around. Smoothest I've ever had. Little pricey, but worth it once a year. Wife asked me if she could mix it with some coke. Luckily I still love her and my dirty look said it all.
:eek::oops::rolleyes:.......I keep a bottle of Jack Daniels, Jim Beam, Evan Williams and regular Wild Turkey on hand if guests feel the need to mix. Which is blasphemy to true bourbon drinkers. Those bottles are in a cabinet below and get dusty....mixing good bourbon is like opening a cigar humidor and finding Swisher Sweets and Tiparillo...
I've found I like whiskey better and pickup up a bottle now and then of Henderson vanilla flavored. It comes from Dallas, of odd places to get whiskey from.
I've gone thru my phases of Wild Turkey, Crown Royal and a few others and found them to be a bit harsh to my taste nowadays.
Now, some "clear mason jar premium Ethel" in a tall cup w/coffee makes the cold mornings more tolerable in winter also for this retired postal carrier.

My problem with Total Wine, is that I can't find the bourbon I want!
A number of weeks ago we attended a brewfest at a campground. Was rather handy, just had to walk a short distance to the camper after it was over. There was a local distillery setup there. We went to the local store on the way home and picked up a few bottles because I thought it was rather tasty and I like to support local places.
I don't have any problem finding what I need in most of them aside from Buffalo Trace products. I've belonged to a bourbon club for a few years and receive a different bottle every month. There have been some oddities, and some that I really enjoyed. I typically never have an issue finding them at Total Wine where liquor is stocked. But the best one is in Knoxville TN and I'm only there once a year visiting kids and grandson.
There is a store in Gettysburg PA that has a fantastic selection. One opened up in Hagerstown MD that I am visiting SAT am....a buddy of mine sent me pics and said there was a very good selection at decent prices.....aside from Buffalo Trace products as usual.....

Yes. There are some deals. Especially the brand specific bundles. Never had a broken bottle as all have been packed very secure. But make sure you are home, or someone is home, to sign for it when it comes.
You folks are too rich for my blood. I only drink it with my son. HE can buy Blanton's, but when he comes to my place he gets Bulleit. So far he has managed to suffer through it.... He buys Blanton's, Angel's Envy, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, and a bunch of small batch stuff.
You can get those for far less than half the price of Blanton's. I like Blanton's, but honestly in my opinion it's a status pour due to price and topper.....because I can't hardly tell the difference between Blanton's, Weller and Eagle Rare. All are Buffalo Trace products. I actually prefer regular Buffalo Trace over their top tier offerings, even Pappy. The only products of theirs I don't care for is Benchmark and Sazerac Rye.
Angels Envy and Elijah Craig are good, but not in the tier level of Blanton's. My favorited Elijah Craig blue label Toasted Barrel.
Had my first Woodford Reserve last night here at the Seelbach in Louisville. I wasn’t impressed at all. Then I went back to sipping another Buffalo Trace.

Stopped in Joe Canals in NJ, and saw two bottles of Blantons, @159 ea. Too rich for my wallet. 1.75 L of Bulliet for $53 in my hand, and out the door we went.
