I'm pretty new to Ruger models but what are your general, honest feedback on the Single Six old model convertibles with 6-1/2" barrels?

I'll be getting more info and details, but in general, what is overall opinions and going prices (you can pm or email me with going rates)?

I have one and have nothing but good to say about it. It seems to eat anything I give it and it hits what it is pointed at; particularly with the mag cylinder installed. Keep in mind that they are not 'six shots in one hole' weapons but are relatively accurate at 25 yards with no problem. As to prices I would suggest you check out the sites below to get a general prices comparison:

Always thought the SC6 that is super single six guns were great--bought one in 1967 NIB--wish I still had it :!: a lot of varments fell at its accuracy---not my shooting skills was 19 years old, loved the magnum for woods carry,.22 long rifle for plinkling :)

I own several of them and will buy more as they appear at fair prices.
As to what they sell for,, well, a LOT of different things go into the price. Condition, rariety, condition, completeness of the package, condition, gotta-have factor, condition.
Get my drift.

THE SINGLE SIX/SUPER SINGLE SIX IS ONE OF THE GREAT GUNS OF ALL HISTORY.
I shoot them in barrel lengths including 4 5/8", 5 1/2", 6 1/2", 7 1/2", and 9 1/2", and NONE will ever be for sale in my lifetime.

I have an opportunity to pick one up in great condition, but no box or papers. Both cylinders. About $450. Fair?

Not sure. How do I tell? It does have a small rear sight but can't tell if adjustable. If fixed, would it just be a groove like a vaquero?

An adjustable rear sight will have screws to adjust the rear blade. Others that are not totally adjustable will have a driftable (using a punch) rear sight insert in the frame. The only grooved rear topstrap non-adjustable that are factory are the NM's that were done as a distributor spl. It sounds like you have a driftable rear Single-Six. Not the adjustable Super Single-Six.

My 1962 old model is absolute perfection. It comes with a fluted Mag cyl and steel, ejector housing.

Its accurate and the cylinder gap is hairline.

The most interesting thing I've noted, every set of grips tried on it just for giggles fits exact. The grip frame seems to be made to exact specs.
I can try the same grips on other rugers and they fit like POS.

$450 is certainly 'high-ish'... Not wacky high but it also depends on the condition of the gun. The "convertible" Rugers will have the last 3 digits of the SN scribed onto the front of each cylinder. There are a lot of 'put together' packages out there, so if you're gonna pay top dollar for the thing make sure you have the correct cylinders before you lay down your money!

Also, you'd be wise to make sure the action is original and not converted to the safety-bar system for that money.

(IMHO of course!)
