Help finding the age of Single Six (Old Model)

Inherited this gun a few years ago and have been trying to find the age of the gun since with no success. It has a 4 digit serial number starting with 9. Thanks for the help!

In 1954,, the second year of production, the serial number range is; 50 to 10733. So,, if it's a 4 digit,, and starts with a "9" that places it in 1954. Good to see the box with it!

Thanks! Im not sure what the label says I’ll have to check later. If I remember correctly it’s handwritten with the gun model name and maybe the serial number or something along those lines.

Yes the box has the original wax paper along with the manual and a list of all the parts and prices for each individual part if you needed to order them. Crazy to see how much cheaper things were back then! I’ll post some pictures of the papers inside tomorrow if y’all are interested.

I would suggest spending $10 on a Ruger factory letter, cool info there :cool:

Curious if Dad bought it new?
If so, the letter might steer you toward a local FFL, which would be cool.
The wax paper is almost perfect. I would like to see a pic of the box end.
So far looks 100% legit and a family heirloom for sure!

You have a real winner there. What a great family heirloom and in very nice shape. It's known amongst Ruger fans and collectors as a Single Six Type 2 Flatgate (about 21,000 made.) The first 2000 Single Sixes ever made are the Type 1 Flatgate.
