OK, Bearcatters...

Ruger's little SA gem is calling to me and I am calling on you for your experience with the recent iteration of the Bearcat. Does yours shoot close to the sights, what kind of groups are you getting/how far, etc?

All replies appreciated and yes I have already checked out the excellent Gunblast.com articles on this revolver. Thank you in advance-

Mine shoots high close up but is right on about 90 yards. I have built up the front sight with JB Weld to see where I need to go and have a piece of stainless to make a taller sight. It is on my things to do list.

Due to my bigger hands, I have a little trouble getting consistant gripping when I shoot any of mine. But when I do the right things, I have no problem getting "minute of critter" hits.

We primarily hunt old shot gun shells hiding on the ground with ours and the little Bearcats are very effective. Had our old model alphabet "H" gun out this weekend. Grandma, grandpa, the kids and grandkids all enjoyed shooting it.

I recently bought two stainless ones about a week apart. Both shoot dead center for windage, and about 2 inches low, at 25 yards. I'm not going to file anything. If I just cover the bull with the front blade, it's dead on.

I'm getting about 3 to 3.5 inch groups with old peepers behind no line trifocals. That's about what I get with my Mark III and Single-Six, too. I'm sure younger eyes could do better.

A Forum member, EWK, manufactures stainless ejector rod housings for these, and has made blued ones in past. His website:

The factory housings are anodized aluminum, silver or black, and just don't match the rest of the gun. The EWKs make my Bearcats perfect.

They have become my favorite guns for just plain fun shooting.

I have three, one super and two old models and can say they are all different. One is almost dead on, one shoots high left, and one shoots right; all from the same rest. Still they are fun guns.

Mine is about 10 years old now. Dead on with the cheapest "Thunderbolt" ammo I can buy. Killed a lot of squirrels with it already. It is easily as accurate as my 5" Ruger Bull semi auto. The sights are perfectly regulated with this round. I expect that another round will change poi, but can't think of a reason to worry about it.

I should have noted that's with Federal Value Pack HPs. Only ammo I've run so far, but it usually matches CCI Mini-Mags for POI.

I have an SS maxed out with EWK and it shoots POA with hot CCI ammo. I don't know what the hell this 25 and 90 yards stuff is all about?

Most of the time these days I use Remington ceebee segmented hp's and it performs like a fine suppressed assassination weapon. It's really about as loud or less than a blackcat firecracker.

My '95 or so BC shot a 2.5" perfectly centered group on my 1st try @ 25yds. I believe it was with WW Power-Points, might have been old CCI Mini Mags.

What's your shootin' distance? 5' or so? :roll:

I'd say I use all my handguns to about 15-20 yards. Most of my kills are trapped animals at point blank.

I really don't plink too much past 15 yards with it.

Eventhough I've used handguns all my life and combat, I really don't prefer them over a rifle or shotgun. This is probably why I prefer the slim line of the fixed sight Vaqueros or Single Sixes. For my distances I don't even aim.
