I was looking for something else browsing the internest and came across a GUNS magazine from 1956. Most interesting were the ads.

There was an ad for a countoured loading for your Single Six, for $3.95!

Ah, yes, the magic word was gate. Sorry for the misinfo.

Here was my chance to be a know-it-all, and I flubbed it!

I never cared for the flat gate myself.
My brother bought one new back in the day. Sweet little revolver but just looked unfinished with that flat loading gate.

Hi Bob, it's cool finding that old stuff being made back in the day. Those gates are collectible as well now. Found one on a lightweight I bought. But they fill the loading shute a little too much IMO. Same company made a trigger return spring plunger that was adjustable for a trigger stop that was also in my gun.

If that advertisment is from 1956, the ad was probably from the Premier Weapons Company in California.
They began making contoured gates and Colt style ejector rods for the Single-Six....then a few months later Ruger finally decided that making a round loading gate was probably a much better idea.
I'm sure cost had a lot to do with Ruger offering a flat loading gate to begin with as the flat gate could be cut from slices from an extruded piece of steel. With the round loading gate Ruger would have had to purchase a very expensive casting setup (for this small part none-the-less!!) which would have added more expense to his gun.

here's the mag site... pretty cool info. I like the Buck Rogers ray gun on page 26.

I put one of the "Premier Weapons Co.'s loading gates along with Ruger's two versions in the above image.
Premier also made a "dimpled" ejector rod button for Ruger's Single-Six.

The "aftermarket" industry wasted no time getting on the "bandwagon" of accessories for Ruger's new Single-Six revolvers.

The grip industry also went "whole hog", but, that's for a different thread...... :D
