Just joined this forum but have been reading it for years. It's run well with low tolerance for nonsense, I don't either. I thought I would share a recent pawnshop pickup. It's a Old Army, serial number 140-00098. 98th. manufactured, 1st. year production. It came with the serial numbered box, a little ragged, paperwork and the Ruger nipple wrench in it's envelope. I'm pretty pleased with this one.

Well I did order a 45 colt conversion cylinder and the belt mountain quick change setup. It shoots my 45 colt handloads like a dream. Very accurate and soft shooting. Of course, weighing as much as an anvil does mitigate the recoil somewhat along with mild cowboy loads.

Back in the day, you could have an assigned serial number. Ruger would pull those numbers aside and you were committed to buying them. Every gun made with that serial number was yours until you gave up the number.
Some people now are trying to put sets back together.

I ran across the gun in a pawnshop I frequently check out. The owner told me a woman came in with several guns to sell that belonged to her grandfather. There were several Rugers but the Old Army was the only one left. He also had some kind of special edition colt looking single action but not a Colt. Lesson: no one cares about your stuff like you did.
