NM Blackhawk front sight attachment?

I'm sure someone here knows this. How is the front sight base attached on the blue NMBH? I have one that I've been thinking of adding a barrel band to. I'm trying to decide between building an integral front sight on the band or just fitting a band and keeping the original sight. How the sight is attached to the barrel is going to help me determine which way I want to go.

Soldered on. Takes a pretty fair amount of heat to remove it so doing so will discolor the blue a bit.
