This thing is sweet. Wonder what the street price will be.

I was betting MSRP was going to be $1200, so I was happy to see under $1000. I like it and I have some "attachments" that will work nicely on it!

Don't really care for this version of a scout rifle. But the nice thing is the reciever accepts detachable mags.

This is something new, now lets see what the distributors are willing to have made up as special runs.

Just got my email for the new rifle! Looks great!!! I like the detachable mag too! Will be on my to get list! Glad to know they are keeping it affordable too!

I'd be happy if they would just make the bottom metal available to the rest of us...a 10-round mag on my 358 Frontier would be "hog heaven".

Nice looking gun.

I know it's not quite the "scout" thing, but I'd love to see this with a semi-auto receiver.

I still have the EER scope I used on my last scout rifle project. Hmmm....

Interesting that Ruger would come out with this rifle as this time, the frontier was their original attempt at Jeff Cooper's Scout Rifle concept...and now the Gunsite approved version which Ed Head has seen fit to bless as he has done with the S&W 1911 Gunsite pistol. This rifle does NOT make the maximum weight of the Scout concept (6.6 lbs with scope), does not appear to have allowance to mount a bipod, does not have a back-up magazine fitted to the stock, and does not have the third sling swivel to mount the Ching Sling, etc.

The Steyr Scout Rifle is the standard by which all scout rifles must be measured against, the Ruger is slick but does not deserve the Gunsite Scout designation, IMHO. The Steyr rifle had the Jeff Cooper package with Leupold Scout Scope, and three point sling...it would appear that Gunsite wanted a rifle that they could profit from and the Ruger is that rifle. I look forward to seeing the rifle in person, the detachable box magazine provides a great option for Ruger to build a completely new family of rifles.....that alone is a great leap forward for Ruger...Sr. would not have approved.

Has Ruger really imposed another artificial magazine capacity limit on this gun so that a 20-round mag only holds 10 rounds?

I can't stand it.

Where's it say it's a 20 round mag limited to 10? Seems to me - from reading the article - this is the result of 4 industry folks getting together and planning such a project. Evidently, some folks that are a bit higher up the food chain think this is what it should be.

besides...a 20 round bolt action...

OK.

Here is the 10-shot Accuracy International SINGLE-STACK mag.

Looks somewhat different than the photo on the Ruger web site, and definitely different than the HK-looking diagram, but external proportions are close enough to give the benefit of the doubt.

The rifles uses a steel ten-round single-column magazine, as is used by Accuracy International and others. it is a very good design. It is not a 20-round mag blocked to ten rounds.

The rifle is easy to handle, balances very well, and is fun to shoot. Most likely will sell for around half the price of the Steyr. The Steyr is a good weapon. I personally do not like the bolt handle on the Steyr, but that is a personal. However, the Ruger is American made, and backed by Ruger service. They perform well, and are already threaded for my Tactical Solutions can!

Does anyone else think the receiver sight looks as though it mounts in the scope base cuts? If so, I am in for one, it could be used on ANY Ruger with integral bases.

Sometimes it's best to give that benefit of the doubt rather than jumping to conclusions, assuming or "blocking" things from what they really are. ;)

NECG has been making sights that use the scallop cuts for years.

Well, I have said I would never buy another 308 bolt gun, but I might have lied to myself.
I am a lefty, and having a LH action would be nice, but I can adapt with the use of a scout scope.
The fact it is threaded and will take my 7.2SD can is a huge advantage.....

I will check one out and fondle it first, but at first glance I like it

They tell me that a LH version is on the way for me and you! That is the only thing that kept me from buying the one that I fired at Gunsite.

Have the rails been redesigned to make this rifle an inline feeder?
Cheers...

Jeff, if they offer us "correct handed" folks, then I 'spect I will have to have one....that's good news, thanks for the update

It looks...interesting. :?

It's like the gun equivalent of a jacked-up, hot-rodded, blower-through-the-hood, Cragar-magged, L60-tired, flame-painted...'65 Buick Riviera. :?
