Yeah, thats it for the 1A's. One caliber for each style No 1, what the heck are they thinking? Even if they were to take orders and make a run for certain calibers once a year.
Whats with all the muzzle breaks on the guns too? Looks stupid. Muzzle breaks only belong on certain guns.

So glad they have RAR compacts. I wish they would come with a stock spacer or I could buy a full size stock. I guess time will tell if that will happen since Ruger just doesn't sell youth guns. ;)
Drop a line to Pres. Pfiefer explaining what you're looking for. I think a stock spacer is a great idea for a Youth Rifle entry. I'm showing the Compact rifle to a friend tomorrow whose wife hunts but is of very small stature. She won't outgrow the compact. They could easily sell a spacer as an accessory on the ShopRuger.com site. They include then on the Gunsite Scout Rifle.

I would love a Guide Gun in .308, it would serve my purposes better than the Scout rifle. I prefer the internal magazine over the detachable version.
As for the muzzle brake, just spin it off and put on a thread protector. Done!

Man, I like the concept of the guide gun. But I can't stand those Green Mountain stocks on anything (give me a standard black/grey laminate any day), and I have no desire to shoot a .300WM or .338WM in a rifle with a 20" barrel. It seems like this one could have been a lot better.
I'm glad to see the stainless GSR with an 18" barrel available.

I see they also discontinued the butt ugly gold LITE 22/45 and now just have the all black one and the TALO one with the cuts on the side.

Wunbe - I sure hope not. But this may be a sign that we will only have a few to choose from in any given year. Others have speculated that the model may continue toward the "distributor exclusive" route taken by Lipsey's and others in the recent past.
I only own one No. 1. But I would like to add to the collection in the future. I hope they keep making new ones, if only to keep the price of used ones from going through the roof.

I think Wunbe is right, which is okay by me. I think there will be a market in used No. 1 rifles guns for years to come.
I think Ruger is doing what a business needs to do; focusing on the money and divesting itself of marginal items. The focus these days is on black plastic, cheap production, high margin, and high volume items.
When I go to the range, I can't remember the last time I saw someone else there with a No. 1. It's been years, maybe more than a decade. The last two times I went, there was only one other guy besides myself who even had a rifle stocked in wood. All the others were ARs of one sort or another, or rifles with a plastic stock. How many folks from the Rambo crowd are going to want to pay $1350 (or whatever the street price will be) for a single-shot rifle? The glory days of elegant American riflemaking as we knew it are probably behind us, and the next generation is, for the most part, into black plastic exclusively. That's just my opinion.
I'm a little bit snooty, I guess, and I'm proud of the fact that I only one one plastic gun (and it's a bolt action Savage I only bought because it was too good a deal to pass by) and one rifle with a laminated stock (my GSR).
We're dinosaurs, I suppose. But like I said, that's okay by me.

I agree completely. I'm not even that old and I feel like a dinosaur when it comes to firearms. Don't own a single black plastic rifle (although I do own a black plastic pistol. ;) ).gatling said:

It looks to me like, as mentioned above, that Ruger will be doing more of the Distributor Exclusive thing. It does make business sense. Ruger has the rifles sold before they ever make them by the orders of 250 or whatever from the distributor. So, if there is something special we want in a No.1, we need to convince the distributor instead of Ruger.

Also, I am so glad that I already bought my M77 African in 9.3x62, since they have dropped that chambering. And I don't want any funky muzzle brake, or even a threaded muzzle on such a nice, traditional looking rifle.
Yeah. What's the big deal all of a sudden with muzzle breaks? Do big game hunters all like to wear hearing protection when hunting dangeroud same? Or do they just like shooting bigger bores that give them an Owey?RJ556 said:

With only five #1's being offered now, looks like the #1 is a goner. The 1-A in .222 and 1-V in the previously unknown 6.5 x .284 would seem to be leftover quantities of barrels that were apparently sitting there. So if that is the case, better get one if you want it, because those are probably very limited also!

With current political attitude towards guns I think that a single shot rifle could become very popular.
No Magazine, rails, flash suppressor or bayonet lug.
Everyone tells me that No.1's are not accurate so they can't call them sniper rifles. :P
Only time will tell us the future of this fine rifle.
I will keep buying new and used guns from past years. Nothing in current line up grabs me. :cry:

The calibers they are offering in 2013 are, to me, a big yawn. I'm sure they're nice, but they hold no interest to me. I've pretty much got what I want. If I came across a .223 1A or a Boddington with nice wood in .300 H&H or 7x57 I'd bite, but other than that, I pretty much have what I want.
This is my very first No. 1...a 200th year .30 06 I bought new in 1976. It's still my favorite.

See, and I have had good luck with my three No 1s. My 7x57 shoots under an inch at 100 and the two 35 Whelens at an inch.

There are some really nice products out there. Some of them I'm not too interested in. I understand the love people have for the No. 1 out there, but honestly to me they've never really been my thing. I do like the guide gun, though like most here I think the muzzle break is kind of ridiculous. I can't stand those things.
Also now I'm wishing I had held off on buying my GSR, what with the new stainless barrel. It seems as far as the scout rifle goes, they are gradually whittling down all the little nits people were picking when it first came out. Polymer mags, stainless barrel, left handed, smaller mags...I think the only thing it needs at this point is some way to load it with stripper clips and everyone will stop criticizing it. :lol: J/k I'm sure it'll still have detractors. I personally love mine.

I'm happy to see a shake-up in the #1 line, how many 30-06 or 243s can you sell every year in a rifle at this price point? I know there is significant interest in a couple of the new cartridge offerings for 2013. The 1a 222 is pretty tempting.
