New GP100 3"

$590 out the door.
Now to get rid of the ugly grips and find some wood ones

I bought these on ebay from Jaruwan. They fit the GP100 and Alaskan. The fit is perfect and at a great price.

Just FYI, the guy on eBay has no postings right now. He ran an ad stating he was going out looking for wood and would be back after 1st of the year.

Anything looks better than those hideous things that Ruger puts on them nowadays. I think the compact Letts are perfect for that revolver, Midway gets them from time to time.

i do not understand the hate for hogue. i have this same gun, and i love the grips. i love everything about it, actually. the grips are invisible when spraying lead...

The problems that I have with Hogue's are that:

1) They are unnecessarily long to accommodate Hogue's stirrup attachment rig and this
hampers concealment.
2) The finger grooves don't mesh with everyone's hand.
3) The area above and below the palm swell is too thin and doesn't distribute the recoil
well.
4) The fill behind the trigger guard is too deep forcing your hand to sit low and accentuating
recoil.
5) They're ugly.

Other than that they are OK.

I have old Pachmayr Compacs on my 3" GP's. They are just ugly.

I agree regarding Jaruwan. Wait until he has some more grips on Ebay as there will be several woods and configurations
to choose from. I bought a set or round butt ones for my GP. Here is what the round butt ones look like on a
customized GP that belongs to Waveform on the other Ruger forum:

I agree with cleardatum . I am one of the ones who like the factory Hogue grips.

I have big hands, wear XL gloves. However I prefer pistol grips to be on the small side with some filler behind the trigger guard on a revolver. Haven't yet found a set of Hogues that work for me. The best grips I've ever found are the S&W panels with a Tyler T grip.

Agree with you on every point, and you forgot one: You have to mount his stupid thingie on your gun, making swapping grips to suit your mood/whim difficult. :evil: :evil: :evil:

I tried several sets of the Hogues when they came out in the '80s. Wish I'd saved my money.

I too have Pachmayr Compac Professionals on a 3" Smith 66, and the factory round-butt Magnas with a Tyler T-Grip on a 2.5" M19. Both work well and look businesslike. :wink:

I agree completely. I love the hogue grips and it makes it feel even more locked into my hand when I shoot it. To each his own I suppose. I agree they aren't as pretty as the wood ones, but at 0130 when someone makes the mistake of entering my house, I am fairly certain he won't worry about how pretty my gun is

That grip is bigger than the darn gun. I'm no fan of the Hogues either, and such a giant grip doesn't belong on a short barreled revolver as they don't conceal well at all.

Charlie, congratulations on your new GP100 revolver! It's a nice one. I agree that it should have come with smaller grips than the Hogues. However, I am a fan of Hogue grips. I like their smooth wood grips better than the rubber. I use Hogue grips on all of my Smith & Wesson revolvers, but on my GP100 I use the older Letts style rubber and wood grip. I hope you enjoy your GP100 as much as I do mine!
