New GP-100 - problem?

I took my new GP-100 to the range yesterday for the first time, and I noticed afterwards that there was a lot of burnt carbon / residue inside the cylinders, some of it extending almost all the way to the back end. There was the normal ring of crud near the barrel end of each cylinder, but this stuff went the other way. I've never seen this in any of my other revolvers. Is this normal?

Hmmm......can't say I've ever looked at my guns dirty. I know they're dirty so I check the condition after I clean them. Something I will check next weekend though.

4x5, I have experienced this with Blazer 38's with the aluminum case. I don't think they are undersized (didn't measure them though), I suspect the aluminum just isn't as stretchy as brass is and doesn't seal as well. The black stuff extends farther back on the cases as well. Try a conventional brass case load and see if that doesn't leave just the normal, expected crud.

These actually were brass-cased cartridges. I have some Blazer aluminum, but didn't fire them yesterday.

May be slightly over-sized cylinder holes. Had this issue once in an old GP-100. Sent it back to the factory for a new cylinder and was told it was "in specification".... Sold it.

I have had the same problem with the aluminum cased ammo. I would agree with Wolfee, it's a case expansion issue.
