If you are planning on hot rodding your .44, what powder and charge weight do you plan on running? When I run my .44mag at max loads my cases are close to but not quite compressed loads. I don't think I could run appreciably larger charge weights without going to a compressed charge (which you don't want to do with H110 or 296).
Just curious as to your thoughts on bullet/powder/charge wt.

FWIW, with a 5 shot you can look at powder burn rates and start using faster powders than H110 and increasing charges to gain velocity. Of course I am not sure how much you can gain over H110 before leading and sticky brass causes issues. Still the 5 shot has more ooh-aah factor!!

I always wanted to make a 5 shot with a 1.4" case just to see what it would do in a standard length gun. That's about as far as I got with that about 12 years ago. I ran the numbers and such and I have a good idea of what it would do but it wasn't impressive enough for me to ever worry with trying it I guess....The standard 44 will do anything I ever asked of it and more. Most of my guns are not run full bore anyway so its not an issue with me

I actually did the same thing with the 41 Magnum Glenn. 5-shot conversion, 1.40" brass, and heavily compressed charges of H110. It'll add 100 - 150 fps across all bullet weights. Not shabby, but no reason to trade in your base 41.

1.4-inch brass.....
With standard length .44 Mag brass, I wonder just how crazy you can get.

You can get crazy but I'm not sure what it'll give over the chronograph. The craziness comes into play when you start opening primer pockets after 2 to 3 reloads. That's one reason I don't push 5-shot like pressures in my 41. 414 brass is rare so once the pockets go, you're screwed.

Another thing to think about is some of the newer design boolits out there. This 300 seats about the same as a 240, so 25+ grains of H110 will fit. I have been weary of that level in a six shooter, but a 5 shot would be no sweat.
Also, the Redhawk with its offset bolt notches can be run harder than a Blackhawk.

Not hi jack the thread but Tek I've been curious how well you have been doing with that mihec bullet. If you would rather not say publicly I totally understand. I remember the remarks when you were asking about the bullet in the redhawk.

Both Bullets: Oregon Trail's 310gr WNFPGC Laser Cast
Left Bullet: Unfired
Right Bullet: Fired at 1300+fps through Four 2x4's and 6" of dirt.

Kilt 5 deer in the past 2 years with this bullet over 21.5gr of W296 and Fed Gold Match Magnum primers. Will punch through both shoulder bones of the deer like butter.

I'll have to dig my sheet out, but the gist of it is that you can either seat it long and load 25gr or seat it short and load 21gr and get nearly the same velocity. Seated long should be more accurate, but I can't really tell it with day to day variations in my shooting. I haven't run into anything that isn't at it's best with H110 at 100% density. Of course it is a moot point since I shoot a 4 5/8
Actually I'll try to test some this weekend since I turned the expander down on my dies to the point that it doesn't expand the sized case any.

Sounds like you guys need a 445! We missed that 5 shot Bowen 445 last week... I believe it closed out without one single bid.

I agree Axe. The 445 was a really nice round. Regular Magnum pressure and an honest 200 fps over the 44 Mag.

Looking back at the original five shot guns in this thread... The cylinders are not full window length like we usually expect in custom cylinder guns. That will limit some of the big bullet possibilities.

Not really Axe. Unless they're shooting dual crimp bullets like Hornady's 300 gr XTP you're limited on OAL anyways.

Looks to me like an opportunity for those heavy bullet freaks to have a custom bullet mold made and use that extra cylinder length...

What 340 grain 45 are you using? I've had good luck with Penn's 340 SSK and Leadheads 335 WFN.

its a mold from accurate molds .com its the 45-340f. I'm looking for a new mold I rather cast my own than but them. Tom at accurate will cut anything you want and his turn around time is super fast like 7 days after you pay for it. I'll look at that Penn and the LeadHead tosee if it's worth having Tom cut me something similiar
