I bought a MKII comp. tar. with a Tasco Pro Staff 30 mm scope on it. I do not care for the scope. It seems WAY to big to me. It is a nice scope. It has 3X22 on the front of it with Ruger 30mm rings. The cross hairs are tapered with a dot in the center. It has the stainless finish.

I can not find any info on the scope at all. I had a few guys tell me with the Ruger rings and base I should get $100. Does this sound right? I want your opinions.

Thanks, JOhn

You won't find much out there on the TPC's because they have been discontinued for so many years.

$100 for the scope and rings is advice from folks who don't have a clue IMO.

I've owned a lot of them for my specialty handguns - going back decades, 1-4X, 2X, 3X, 4X and 6X in both black and silver finishes. No doubt they are ugly as sin with the 30 tube and size of the bells that makes them kind of bulky on even some specialty handguns, but they get it done and are very reliable. I owned a bunch of handcannons for nearly 50 years, some of them among the meanest (JDJ's, Super Bower's, big bore mags, Rigby, etc), and they just plain stand up to recoil no matter - the reticle is etched on glass and their works strong as a tank. Might have helped the works along on mine some as I have never been a knob twister even with my most serious target scopes, so once sighted in to PBR they were only used again when moved to another handgun. Their converging dot reticle is great for target shooting and quick target acquisition on running game as it naturally draws your eye in line with the scope and to the dot, and they have good enough light transmission for all but maybe the crack of dawn/dusk hunting usually. There is a company in FL that still services and refurbished them. In their day they were quite expensive scopes in the $300+-$450 range, way higher than other Tasco's. Now they can be bought used from the uneducated for as little as well under $100 up to $150-$175 or so. I still have one 6X black on my first year XP-100 221, but had no trouble at all selling all the others when I sold most of my handcannons for higher prices than those above... to users who knew what they were. The silver is not as common so usually gets a few bucks more than the black. If you find somebody that knows and wants one, it is a sellers market regardless of the economy.

And all of the above from a guy who normally will not own the Tasco brand name or any other normally cheaper brands. There was a Simmons as well (now long discontinued), the Gold Medal Target 2-7 Redring that was also a tank on handcannons. Don't like Simmons either, but I had 7 or 8 of these as well. Might have made all my Leupold's, Burris, etc a little mad at me, but they did their job better than the expensive glass did on the big boomers as long as I could live with less X's. Only scope I ever blew up on a handcannon was a Leupold.

Best IMO would be specialty handgun heavy forums that have classifieds because many of them know.

You're welcome.
