Been anxiously awaiting delivery of my brand-new Sheriffs Birdshead .45 ACP. Whoopee! just picked it up from my FFL today. And it's gorgeous!

Just a little problem. The loading gate wont open without an undue amount of persuasion. I know I can take it apart and fix it, but I'm gonna let Ruger shine where they shine the brightest. Customer Service. And they've already e-mailed me a shipping label.

Now I get to be excited all over again waiting for the guns return to me.

And on that day I can also lose the plywood grips and replace them with these really great ones.

WAYNO.

I think you will love this gun when it returns. I bought one of the birds head 45 Vaqueros a couple of years back - the first one I ever handled. I liked it so much that I bought the second one I ever saw. I think the single action is ideally suited for the 45 ACP. I like the fact that it is a powerful cartridge that is short enough that the ejector rod pushes the case completely out of the chamber.

BTW: Nice looking grips you have there.

Nice looking gun! I like them every time I see them, I've always been on the fence with the birdshead grip though as I've never shot one. Maybe I should just buy one and see for myself.

That's nice especially nice with your new choice of grips!

As long as she's goin' back to the mother ship, might as well have them replace the misaligned loading gate. I couldn't help but notice that it's not flush with the recoil shield at the top, front. That ain't right.

+1 ......there could be a compound problem. Miss cast gate causing the opening problem also. Ruger will take care of that
I am sure.

I have the same revolver except in a Vaquero and in 45 Colt. I Love these guns. Yours is a beaut. Congratulations, can't wait to see what Ruger does to it.

Looks nice. I like the contrast of the "silver" in the factory grips. Not a big single action fan but I do regret letting one of these slip through my fingers that was selling at a good price. Thought the 45ACP would be interesting.

I have had a bunch of different Sheriff models, both in full-size and New Vaquero size. I've considered them mostly a novelty. For whatever reason, this last acquisition is easy for me to rationalize in the ACP chambering. There's no doubt that the .45 Colt is a great choice, but unless you're reloading, it's a pretty expensive plinker. The ACP chambering, with ballistics relatively close to the .45 Colt ballistics, at half the price if you're buying ball ammo, is a natural for this little Vaquero. And since I'm not opposed to CC'ing a SA revolver, this little New Vaquero-size Birdshead with a midget-sized barrel is very carry-able. I was really looking forward to trying this gun out.

As noted above, the loading gate is not at all square to the world. I did not even catch that until you guys pointed it out. All I knew is that the loading gate was ridiculously difficult to open.

We're in a real pickle out here. No dealers carry any neat Ruger stuff, so everything must be ordered online. There's no fondling or test driving before I buy. I just have to dive in and hope that I'm not receiving a Monday or Friday gun. Looks like this was a Friday, overtime gun, and the monkeys just wanted to be done.

One good thing about sending one back is it will be in the hands of one of their top
People. I am sure you will be pleased with it when it returns. I would expect it in less than two weeks, sometimes less than a week.

My Ruger Birdshead .45 ACP was the first one I had shot and liked it so much I converted my Uberti "Running Iron" to Birdshead status! Running Iron came from Uberti with slicked up action.

Been on the phone, this morning, to all four dealers in my area and none have any in stock. They are telling me that the distributor is also out of stock. It figures; if you want something to disappear let Frank want one.  Guess I'll try Gunbroker next.

You could go too town with that gun!

If capacity or reload time was a concern a SP-101 or other
Ruger might go well with it.

Good news. I received my revolver from Ruger today. Seven-day turn around from when I shipped it to Ruger.

They replaced the loading gate, and it now works perfectly.
