My first New Vaquero....

..... or any Vaquero, for that matter. It was just sitting in one of my local haunts for week after week. The owner finally got tired of me playing with it and offered $400 OTD, so I laid it away. When I picked it up today he even threw in a box of Magtech .45 Colt ammo:

I know the color case finish is no longer available, but this one looks pretty good and I'll try to keep it away from anything that might strip off the finish. At least its nice for now.

I plan to carry it while metal-detecting in the desert - two CCI shot loads followed by four big lead bullets.

The lighter weight of the New Vaquero will be appreciated after carrying it on your hip all day along with swiinging that metal detector.

I might be in the minority here, but I like the New Vaqueros better than the Vaqueros. They feel better in my hand. The original Vaqueros felt bulky.

I took it for a quick try out on the rez today - just shooting at rocks and targets of opportunity. It handled great and busted rocks with plenty of authority.

I'm impressed with the metal-to-metal fit on this gun, which is better than the last 3rd Generation Colt I had. The stocks feel good, but I think I'll dress it up with something fancier.

The action is very smooth - much more so than any of the regular NM Blackhawks I've had.

All in all, I'm really happy with this sixgun.

Good find, good price. If that was in one of my local haunts, I would have snatched it up pronto as soon as it was displayed. A .45 Colt New Vaquero with the case coloring at a reasonable price, I'd buy it in a heart beat (half a heartbeat if 5 1/2" barrel). Let us know how it shoots!

I have big hands and I like the New Vaquero size frames as well. My SS 44 SPL balances perfectly with the 4 5/8" barrel. With the Skeeter load of Unique, it's all I need power-wise.

Good find. I think I'm also in the minority in liking a "CCH"-look NV (or OV) versus just blued. I've got both--or I should say all three, two CCH's (four if you count my Vaqueritos) and one just blued --and while the "CCH" is not stellar, it is still more interesting to me than just blued--on the fixed sight guns. More distinctive. My .44 Sp is off to Turnbull as soon as I can afford!
