My brother could have gotten in trouble

Well, maybe.

Some weeks ago,, we all saw Border Patrol & ICE go to Charlotte NC after illegal invaders & criminals. And we all saw how some people protested, and did things to try & warn the illegals, or interfere with the enforcement of the law.

Well, my brother lives in Charlotte.
And he's a Vietnam Vet.
He came out of a store and suddenly a loud blasting whistle was right behind him. He just reacted. He spun around, & saw this woman blowing a whistle to warn the illegals. At the same time he spun,, he instinctively grabbed the woman's whistle, and almost struck her. He then got into her face & told her he was a Vietnam Vet, and had some PTSD & that damn whistle almost got her killed. He told her to stop it or she could try to blow it out of her "other orifice" that he would plant it in.
She ran away from him.
He later saw her on the local news being arrested for interference with the law enforcement officers.

He called a LEO friend of his & told him what had happened. He volunteered to testify against her actions because he had been subjected to an episode by her doing what she'd been doing. He was told that the DA might want to talk to him, but so far,, they haven't.

But a few LEO's have stopped by & thanked him (quietly) for his actions.

He says that if anything "negative" happens towards him,, he will tell the truth, and let the press, and social media know why he reacted the way he did. He says he can recall times the VC would use whistles. And sudden sharp noises behind him,, NOT good.

I'm glad he did what he did, she got what she deserved.....but he may want to keep some distance from this going forward. If he pushes it there is a chance those nutjobs will try to paint him differently and make an example of him assaulting them. Which could be emotionally and financially draining.

I don't think this is going anywhere. Apparently the local LEO's in his neighborhood know him & LIKE him.
He's always been supportive of them.

Just last week,, they had their K-9's out looking for a suspect. The dogs were on a leash. One saw my brother sitting in his yard swing,, went over,, and sniffed. My brother calmly spoke to him & offered the back of his hand for "inspection." the dog was fine. The LEO handler,, was smiling,, because he knew my brother wasn't afraid, nor the suspect.
He never heard if they caught the suspect or not.

He allowed that during the BP & ICE visits,, Charlotte got a LOT quieter.

Good for your brother! Every week in the county arrests here there are at least a dozen or more illegal aliens turned over to immigration.

We have this newly elected idiot Adelita Grijalva protesting now , saying she was pepper sprayed by ICE.
Which is an out and out lie. Videos prove she is a liar , but she still keeps saying it.

That's a very broad assumptive statement, in fact borderline derogatory. It's statements like that which create and maintain a stigma about Vets dealing with PTSD symptoms.

The blowing of a horn,, is different than a whistle very close & directly behind him. Remember,, he was able to grab the whistle immediately. She was that close.

But he still doesn't like sudden loud or very sharp noises too close to him overall.

There is no need for your furthering to explain or for others to self diagnose. Many a comment comes from ignorance yet well meaning perhaps as in post #4

I don't have PTSD, but if someone blows a whistle like that behind me? Yeah... they may need a strainer and a day or two's wait before they can use that whistle again....

Same here. No PTSD, but would definitely react to that kind of situation.

I’m deaf but also noise sensitive. Go figure.

I wouldn’t blame his reaction on PTSD.

I too react swiftly to loud unexpected noises. Were that whistle blown closely behind me she probably wouldn't have it to blow the second time unless she went looking for it. Those that are not noise sensitive probably wouldn't understand. It doesn't have to be because of any past trauma

My brother reacted, quickly, and w/o any real thought. And it was his choice to say he had PTSD to her & to NEVER do that again. He's not too bad with PTSD,, but he does have a few things he's sensitive to.

And I can easily relate. Not the PTSD part,, but the swift reaction to sudden things happening too close to me.

Fortunately we have a better understanding of PTSD now than what was thought of after WWI, WW2, Korea and even Vietnam. It certainly is not a joking matter or anything that is a weakness in the person who is suffering. I had a history teacher in high school who was a WWII veteran who suffered from what was then called "shell shock". Once a backfire of a car outside the school caused him to drop to the ground and hide behind the desk, causing the ignorant students to laugh and ridicule him. People can be both ignorant and cruel.

That’s a wild situation, and I can understand why he reacted the way he did. A loud whistle right behind someone with combat history is a bad idea no matter who it is. Folks don’t realize how fast those old instincts come back. Sounds like he kept himself in check and walked away before things got worse, and honestly that woman was playing a dangerous game interfering with law enforcement like that.
