Musing about Forum members,,,,,

I often read posts here,, and knowing I've never met most of these fine folks,, I try to imagine what they look like if we were to meet.
Now, I know some of y'all have posted pics of yourselves,, and that gives me an idea about you. But those that never have,, well,,, I figured out something.

See, I often think of people as if we are all younger,, able bodied,,, enjoying life w/o many worries, mostly still working & in our prime. Shooting whatever,, hunting, target shooting, keen eyesight, etc.

Then I find that often,, a post will state a person's age, or maybe something about their health, or how they can no longer enjoy shooting due to XYZ etc. And I find myself thinking a bit differently when that happens. Or, I see a post where someone shares about how they can no longer even enjoy shooting at all for health reasons, yet,, they still have the passion & love for the sport.
Sometimes,, it's better to live in our minds,, than see the reality.

So,, to all of y'all whom I've never met,, I think of you in terms of your prime! No matter what your life is currently!

And to the ones I have met,, I have never been disappointed,, even when I see a few with limitations. I do see the younger version as well,, just a bit more limited!

I've had the good fortune to meet several members here. All high quality people. When I talk about internet privacy with my daughter and how everything she puts on the internet will be there forever, I think about this forum. Once I took her with me to sell a shotgun to someone here on the forum I hadn't met yet.

I follow more than one forum board. It all started when I decided to start carrying. This was one of the first forums I joined as I had an old P-series. In all honesty this forum is my favorite because of the people. At 55 I can still move on pretty good at work & actually surprise most of the younger guys with what I do. I find it entertaining when they are working hard to keep up. My eyes aren't as good as they used to be (I use reading glasses now) but I am in pretty good shape for the shape I'm in. I do need to quit smoking but other than that I am fine.

These 2 statements say a lot of what I was thinking.

I'm 62,, and often feel as if I'm still the much younger guy when I was in my 30's, and very capable of doing anything I wanted w/o any aches & pains. Seeing & feeling the changes age has forced upon myself,, is a bit frustrating, yet,, I do understand it's the evolution of time.

But when I read things from members here that I've never met,, I think of them in the same manner as I think of myself. Young at heart & mind,, despite what my body tells me!

I’m bad at remembering people, I read their posts and comment but I rarely put all their posts together. So I don’t form an opinion of people like others do.

I’m always humbled when someone knows my name is Ed, because I don’t sign my posts with my name. And I realize this person knows who I am and has connected me with my past posts.

Fine bunch of people here, but you still need to be somewhat on guard. Lots of lurkers I am sure.

Like Contender I assume everyone in around 40 and active. I once recommended that 5 years wasn’t long to wait for a custom knife. They revealed they were into their eighties and that 5 years WAS too long to wait! Lol.

I picture myself even younger and am really surprised when I see a recent photo of myself.... It took almost dyeing twice last year for me to finally see that I am mortal.... I've spent the last couple of months trying to get rid of a lot my stuff.... but I'm putting off passing on my gun stuff...

I did sell the 10/22 with the Thompson machine gun stock to a member this past week... the only problem is I've got two more guns on the way.

But back to Contender's point: I'm looking forward to seeing some of you fellow old geezers in just about a month...

Closing in on 59, still acting (well, trying to act) like I did 30 years ago. Heading out next week for my yearly SW Colorado camping adventure, This year I actually got drawn for a Muley Buck blackpowder tag, so I am excited for that.
