Mossberg 20 gauge Shockwave.......

Really thinking of getting one of these for real handy trail use around my range property in the country.
Should make a very nice snake/ critter gun! It is a bit smaller and lighter in weight than the 12 gauge but can still get the job done.
Got to thinking about this during my cold morning walk along the woods line when dog alerted me to something have buried in the leaves....a grey/black small to medium snake but not moving due to the 35 degree temps. Now this was at my home in town along the woods.

I have a Mossberg in an sixteen inch barrel with a pistol grip. That would
make it the same length, shooting the 12ga. Even if this one had been
available, I would have taken what I have.

I shot trap leagues for many years while I was working. One season after
the trap league (500 rounds plus practice) a buddy wanted me to shoot
skeet, and he supplied the gun and ammo. CAN'T pass up something
like that. It was a 20ga, over/under and it beat me all to (well you know).
Even after getting "into shape" with the trap, that 20ga flat out beat me up.

I tend to believe I'd pass on one of these. :wink:

That is interesting since most have stated the recoil was less than the 12 gauge version.

From what I gather, the 20ga Shockwave is only 1/4" shorter than the standard 20ga pistol grip model.

Well my local dealer had a 20 gauge in stock so I took my Rem 870 pump 12 ga. with 18.5 barrel and AR type stock down there for a size compare and the Shockwave in 20 ga. is much more handy as shorter of course and light in weight. I think it will be perfect for general purpose duty down at my range area.

Put one on Layaway and will pick it up in a month or so. And of course I brought my trusty 870 home cause it's a great slug gun with the shock absorbing AR stock!

Just picked up the 20 ga. Shockwave. Seems a dandy little gun that is all business. Can't wait to try it out!

Yes, I did my BATF/GCA-68 homework long ago - so of course the bbl's 18", plus a bit so I could cut it just ahead of a VR support post.

Only shotgun receivers originally issued as PGO's (Pistol Grip Only) can have a barrel shorter than 18", provided of course that they still have a minimum OAL of 26".

Years ago I traded an old Star pistol for a Mossberg 500 20 gauge pistol grip only with an 18 1/2" barrel. Later on I picked up a full buttstock because I didn't really like the pistol grip only. I wound up selling it and an inexpensive .22 revolver because I thought I wanted something else worse. Sigh-should have kept it.

PSA had the Remington 870 version of the Shockwave 20 ga. on sale last weekend for $299. Tempting...

I got the 12 before the 20 came out. Still too cold to take it to the range.

A high school friend of mine’s father had a original Ithaca Auto & bugler 20 gauge (double barreled shotgun with a pistol grip) now that was a handful. It was controllable if you put one hand on the top of the barrel to help hold it down in recoil. Don’t know what happened to it, he didn’t know that it required a tax stamp to own.
