More problems for the BSA

I got the email yesterday about them filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In it,, was a few comments I found interesting.
"90% of the claims of abuse are 30 yrs old or older."
While I find ANY abuse of a child by another person unacceptable,, I have followed some of this for a while. Apparently,, some of the liberal groups,, combined with lawyers,, decided to destroy the BSA by looking for & soliciting anybody who wants to claim abuse.

And it's a known fact that I retired from Scouting after 50 years because of the direction National has taken over the last several years.

Another fact,, not often known,,, but was listed in my email.
"Local Councils are independent businesses & are separate from the National operations."

Local Councils will also be named in lawsuits & such.

The BSA I grew up with,, supported for decades,,, and believed in has folded to "political correctness & liberal attitudes." I doubt we'll see then be as strong & popular as they once were in our lifetime.

Yep, Contender nailed it. Many of our Presidents, Congressman, and Judges were high ranking scouts. The BSA literally helped build America. The libs are tearing down America. The libs have attacked the core family unit, church’s, and now the BSA. As the op stated, there is a lot more to come!

When I was young I joined the Scouts and had nothing but good things come out of it.
The men that were our leaders were all very honorable men and they held all of us to their
high standards to excel at everything we did.
It is a shame that they are tearing down all of the institutions that helped generations of young
people to guide them in positive ways. I feel sorry for the young men today that need the guidance
at that age to steer them in the right direction.

I spent many years as a Cub, Scout, Explorer, and sailed with a Sea Scout ship and went out in the Atlantic on an aircraft carrier. Later in life as a Committee member and Merit Badge Counselor. I attended the 1950 Jamboree at Valley Forge and again in 1993 at Fort A. P. Hll Virginia. All enjoyable times. The present direction they have taken is nothing I wish to be part of.

FMC,, yes, it is true that the management at HQ BSA have put Philmont at risk, by the direction thay have taken to cover financial expenses.
I have known about this for several months.

I'm appalled & sickened.

I first attended Philmont in 1975 as a Scout,, and again as an adult leader in 2008. My Troop has a LONG history of attendees & volunteers for Philmont. My Troop has only had 3 Scoutmasters in 74 years. The first SM,, attended Philmont at least 20 times. Our second SM,, (who is still currently active, after 58 years in the Troop,) has been over 20 times. My Troop has sent over 175 boys to Philmont.
I attended my first National Jamboree in 1973,, and have been to 3 others.

I'm sickened at the direction National has taken.

BTW; Just this evening,, I attended a funeral for a family friend. The uncle of the deceased gentleman grew up with me in our Troop. He's just a brother from a different mother. He got me to join him in our Troop over 50 years ago. He too is an Eagle,, and a member of the Eagle Scout Association. But,, as an adult,, he became a Federal US Customs investigator. In his last dozen or so years with ICE,, he was a computer forensics specialist. He focused on child pornography.
He called me one day & said; "Watch the news,, it was me."
The next day,, a news story broke about an executive at BSA National being arrested for importation of child porn. My brother (by a different mother,) got him to flip a lot of information on others who were dealing in this trash. When we talked,, he informed me that this guy never had direct contact with any boys in any Troops. (Luckily!)
We were both appalled.

Sadly,, the direction National has taken over the last 10 years or so,, has diminished & tarnished the image Scouting held for over a century.
This latest filing for bankruptcy is just another damaging portion designed to destroy the BSA.

The BSA became too dependent on corporate contributions, and too many companies have drifted left.
Many other churches have withdrawn sponsorship over the homosexual issue.

You are correct in that at the National level,, which was filtered down to the regional & local levels,, large corporate money is involved. And these very companies,, pushed their liberal agenda or threatened to withdraw their financial support. United Way was one that got some press out of it several years ago. Others have done so quietly.

And yes,, the directions that National has drifted to,, allowing homosexuals, girls, etc to be part of the group has caused a lot of people and churches to withdraw their support. The Mormon Church,, which was almost 1/5th of the total BSA membership has withdrawn from the BSA. It was based upon their beliefs & the different direction the BSA was heading. They,, along with many smaller churches & individuals (myself included,) do not agree on the direction the BSA has taken.

Myself,, on the homosexual issue,, I feel this way.
I do NOT care what 2 consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes. It is THEIR business, NOT mine. Many of us here have homosexual friends. In fact,, WITHOUT directly discussing it,, one wonderful person here on this forum is gay & I think the world of them. I'm proud to call them my friend.
BUT,,, BUT,, I do NOT want anyone,, shoving THEIR personal, & (should be) private sexual life into my face,, or demanding that I alter my way of life to accept it. I accept the PERSON when I'm allowed to make my choice. And NOT when I'm forced to do so.
The media, several companies & groups are doing just that. They have done it to the BSA.

And look around us here. We are a firearm forum. Exchange homosexuality with firearm ownership. And most of us here defend our Right,, as guaranteed by the Constitution. We do not want anyone shoving their anti-gun views upon us. We, like to make our own decisions.

Another issue.
Girls in the BSA. Again,, it's a liberal group demanding inclusion for all. I'm sorry,, BOY Scouts does not mean girls. The BSA won a Supreme Court decision to make their own rules AND exclude people who they felt were not BSA compatible. This was over homosexuals,, but also set a precedence, a legal one,, where it allowed protections to the institution.

The recent changes in the last several years by BSA National, and even local Councils, to change things has caused the problems.

Everyday people want their children to have a safe, educational environment with the BSA. Many many people have commented to me; "I do not want my child, grandchild etc to be in a place where they might be exposed to XYZ." They do not want the POTENTIAL for problems because the leadership allows an environment where it's much more possible. As such,, membership has been declining for the last several years.

And BSA National,, well,,, they started it by crumbling to the big money donors, and abandoning the core principals of the BSA. And I believe that was the actual plan of the liberals in the first place. Destroy the BSA.

My thought?
Once the BSA is destroyed,, who's next?

The answer.
Anybody who isn't a socialist liberal.

BSA IMO is fantastic. I enjoyed scouting and never ever heard of any abuse from scouts or anyone else during my scouting days. Camping Klondike derbies in the winter. I'm very sad about what scouting is facing! It's few bad eggs it is nothing more than that!
Naturally a big payday draws people out! ps

I do not want pedophiles to be allowed to work with children under ANY circumstances whatsoever. Among my many complaints against the homosexual community is their tacit approval of pedophilia. In Barnes and Noble a few years ago I saw a cover story on a homosexual magazine-"Should we drop NAMBLA ?" Have you ever heard of NAMGLA ? Have you ever heard of Gerry Sandusky ? What happened to "Morally Straight " ?

I loved my time in Boy Scouts, Didn't make Eagle, still mad about why. I Had Life and 99% of my Eagle stuff done, God & Country award, a couple of mile swims, and really hoped to be able to do OA my last year at camp and that was when the adults started ruining it for me. It was obvious some parents were literally buying the Eagle awards for their kids, who had not been in the troop as long as me and some other guys had. We were a very active troop, rim to rim Grand Canyon in 1965, annual bicycle trips to the Okla State Fair, built parade floats for the Land Run Celebration in Guthrie. We did all kinds of community work, etc. At Summer camp I was working water safety at the camp pool and counseling younger scouts on canoe basics. OA selections were made, I got passed by for some kids who had not even been in the troop very long, I had been there for 5 years. I was sitting in the camp by myself, really sad I got passed up on the OA. One of the older scouts who had been Eagle for a couple years sat down by me and said, "It aint right, you and a couple other long time guys were next in line for OA, the other OA scouts voted for you, the adults ignored the vote, they are giving these new guys special treatment because their parents are rich and giving money to the council."
Over the next year I watched as some of the new parents really changed how the troop operated, we quit doing stuff like rifle range or trap shooting and did more "arts & crafts" and community beautification programs to the point it was like the Boy Scout troop was slave labor for some of these people. Campouts became lame with moms and siblings of the new troop members being at every event. It was not just us guys anymore. We quit doing pioneering, fire building races with flint & steel or bow drills, quit throwing tomahawks and shooting archery, because, "There are small children in camp, it isn't safe to do those activities.
A couple years ago my youngest brother was telling me that one of those wannabe scout leaders got pervy with him, I said why didn't you say something, he told me, "I tried, nobody believed me" Scoutmaster told him to let it go.
This week watching the news and seeing what happened to the organization that had meant so much to me as a kid really made me mad.

How true :!:

Don,, I've had adults TRY & do some things that weren't "fair" in my Troop over the years. Whenever I saw this stuff,, I'd shut it down. It's sad you didn't get your Eagle. But being in the OA isn't required for Eagle.
We had a few adults do different things to where their son would get awards when they really didn't earn them. Well, a few of us old timers would always find a way to put the kid on the spot where they SHOULD have known something & didn't. Once it was so bad,, that our SM took a boy aside, (still in full view of other adults,) had a long talk with him,, and the boy admitted to NOT doing the work for the award. Then,, the SM took that to the parent,, and the award got returned. The parent made the boy quit scouting.
I saw that boy several years later,, and he was a druggie worthless individual,, who's dad had kept bailing him out of stuff until he could no longer afford it.

Scouting has for many decades been a really great place for young boys to learn to be responsible adult men. Sadly,, that is dying out.

I grew up in a Scouting family. When I was a Boy Scout, my brother was an Explorer, my sister was a Girl Scout. My Dad was the regional Camping Director for the BSA and my Mom was a Girl Scout leader. Personally I never experienced or even heard of an issue of abusive leaders, sexual or otherwise. But the same Leftists that demanded that the Boy Scouts allow homosexual leaders, ignoring the reality that while certainly all homosexuals are not pedophiles, all pedophiles that prey upon young boys are homosexuals, then acted outraged when it became clear that sexual abuse was taking place within Scouting. The Left is just determined to tear down all traditional American institutions and values and we need to stop being conciliatory toward these enemies of America.

The late Cardinal Bevilacqua of Philadelphia ordered that homosexuals were not to be admitted to the seminaries under his jurisdiction and seminarians found to be active homosexuals were to be expelled. He was denounced for that, people charged he wasn't following The Man's teachings on forgiveness. The Hare Krishnas attracted a lot of homosexuals and pedophiles, to achieve their higher ranks, candidates had to be celibate, of course many could answer honestly "I have no interest in women." As the Joe Paterno-Gerry Sandusky case shows, pedophiles often have powerful patrons and protectors.

As an Eagle Scout, and Brotherhood OA man I am appalled with the events at the BSA or should I say the GGBSA (gay, girl, BSA)?
