montado question?

NO

fwiw
The early Montado frames did have grooves in themfrom the butt end to the back of the trigger gaurd. The idea was to help in hanging on, BUT they were not allowed by some of the CAS groups.

Where is Jim? He likes to post pics like this.

How about this? Got it off Google.

The Montado I have does have the internal lock. It's an early issue with the grip frame grooves. Maybe the current issue Monatdos don't have the lock.

Well it did...now it's bypassed:

No worries, we've all been there, done that!

To my knowledge, the stainless grip frames that never got the lock are all XR3-RED size that were already in production when the lock was introduced. Ruger only made grip frame casting moulds with lock accomodation for:
1. the new XR3 size grip frames, both blue and stainless (for the New Vaq and flat top Blackhawks), and
2. new moulds for the blue alloy XR3-RED size grip frames.

I have two brand new Montado`s and they have `NO` locks.
I am making grips for the second one now. I got the first one (last one Davisdons had)
about a month ago and had to BO the second. It was Made on 3-22-13 , two weeks after I ordered it and I had it 2 weeks later.

I thought that may be the case and glad that's the case.

G2, Ruger was trying to make liars out of both of us! Thx for the update Chuck.

Still the XR3 size? I wonder if the blue New Vaqs are the same.

well lets see your build dates and serial numbers!! mine is 511-00383 test fired 9/29/2010 Stainless , With Grip Frame Lock. smooth front strap, standard ejection rod and montado hammer.__bedrockfred

Chuck,
That's beautiful and the grips are stunning! I would really appreciate a photo of the grip frame with grips removed. I'm curious to know if the grip frame is a new casting w/o lock accomodation or if Ruger just makes a new longer spring bracket for the lock frame?
Thanks,

Hondo44 I will get you a picture possibly this afternoon or tomorrow. Have to go to a funeral today. My nephew was killed by a drunk driver last Thursday so the family is pretty tore up. He was driving home from work and three blocks from home when a drunk ran a stop sign and nailed him. Sad!!!

Hondo44 , I had a few extra minutes so here is a picture of that Montado grip frame. There are no markings on the other side either.

I like em better without the lock for sure.

Oh Chuck, I'm awfully depressed to hear that. There's nothing to say that can help such a situation. I'll pray for solace and peace of mind for you and your loved ones.

Sincerely,

REVISED: Oh I see that you posted while I was typing.

Thank you! I see that it's a new casting.

Thanks guys, The funeral was yesterday and there were over 300 people there the small chapel was full with people sitting on the floor of the podium and lined up outside standing in the rain. Charlie was loved by many and he never met a single person who he disliked. He was big young man with a heart of gold. He will be missed by all who knew him.
