Don't see any used ones fer sale, mine was stolen police came and wrote up report I even told them the name of the so and so that stole it but nothing has happened and that was 4 years ago. the thief was in the army at the time he is out now working at our local gun store. (EVIEL GETS REWARDED)

Around these parts ALL Ruger or Smith or Colt revolvers are darn few and far between ..... basically non-existent.

My Model 19, 4 inch, nickel is the only gun that I own that has any sort of emotional value. I had a home burglary back in the mid ‘80’s, and of course the thief took the only gun that I owned, a .380 Browning (no idea what the model was) that I had never fired but just assumed it would if needed. I was definitely not into guns then and just kept that old 380 in my bedside table. So the morning after the burglary I felt a real need to get a new gun, especially when the police detective had told me that since it appeared that the thief left in a hurry when he or they heard us come home, there was a chance that they would be back to get what they failed to carry out the first time. In those days there was no paperwork at all, just walk into the store and pay for the gun.

I went to a sporting goods store and looked in the showcase and saw this beautiful Model 19, wood grips, nickel plated and at that moment it appeared to me to be the very essence of what a handgun should be. I don’t shoot it much nowadays, but I would never part with it. I’ve told my wife that I don’t care what she does with my other guns after I die, but to make sure that this S&W goes to our youngest son who has dreamed about owning it.

As a younger man,, with smiff's & Colts being desirable AND more expensive than my budget,, I found Rugers to fit my pocketbook & needs. But,, occasionally, I'd manage a smiff. Sadly,, I let a few of the ones I had in those early years slip away,, (all model 27's) until I managed to find a few in the last 20 or so years, that didn't have to leave.
One is a M-19,, but the model 27's,, always a bit more of a favorite over the 19.
Still the model 19 is a fine handgun.

You told us the whole story a couple of years ago. I guess you're still pining over it and who wouldn't? I have both a model 14 and a model 19.

I did have a model 66, the stainless steel version of the M19. Fully engraved no less. Darn gun shot so far to the left that there wasn't enough adjustment in the rear sight to compensate. Bought it for $400 from a guy who needed money in a hurry and sold it at a gun shot for $1,100. Frankly, it was a nice gun but I don't miss it one bit. The engraving was full coverage and very nice but pretty didn't make it shoot straight.

My 19-4 is still one of my favorite handguns. Mine was my first centerfire
handgun. I worked for a fine gentleman that was a FFL holder and a
S&W collector.
He ordered it new for me when I was 21.
My only other firearms at the time was a NM Single Six, a RST 6 and a Ruger 22 carbine.
Still have all those plus a few others.

Sorry for your loss. Everyone should own a S&W19

Mine:

I agree.

A 4" M19 was my first revolver, and my only revolver for several years. It did everything I asked of it. But now, having owned several other .357s both bigger and smaller (including both 2.5" M19 and 3" M66, same gun in stainless), I find the 4" M19 to be a jack of all trades, master of none. Mine currently resides with my son, who uses it as his designated "house gun." Anything I need to do with a .38/.357 these days is better done with something else (as I said, either bigger or smaller). But I have a heavy-barrelled 4" M17 (.22LR) which looks and feels exactly like my old 4" M19 (except for the ejector rod shroud). I enjoy shooting it a lot and DO shoot it a lot--it's one of my favorite .22 revolvers. Come to think of it, one of my favorite .22 handguns of any kind.

I bought one in 1995 for $379. Wish I had kept it. Today I see used ones in gun shops with $700-800 price tags!

I seem to recall my Dad paying around $140 for mine in 1973.
