MKII slide stop

Ok so the Ruger MKII I posted about trying to confirm the model has a small issue with the slide stop.
When the last round is fired the slide stop doesn't engage the slide. It was pretty stiff when I bought the gun. I have tried different mags, oiled the exterior as well as the interior of the lever with out doing any more disassembly than removing the grips. The oil did seem to loosen it up a good bit and I thought it might function normally but no such luck. I am wondering if further disassembly and cleaning might help as it feels the lever moves up to the engaged position, but feels a little slow and maybe gummed up, or it this a wear problem other MKII owners have encountered, and if so what will I have to replace?

How many rounds have you put through it?

Can't remember having that problem but wonder if a few hundred rounds might not be your answer.

I've put 350 or so through it, I don't know how much the previous owner shot it or if he was original owner.

sometimes there is wear either on the lower front corner of the bolt,OR the latch itself, if not properly angled, will not stay "latched" also, if the ammo is some sort of hyper velocity,it can jar, ( bounce) out of connection.......
yes, keep it oiled and make sure there are NO burrs ( happens with the stainless ones all too often)

added note, make sure the proper button is in the magazine,seen some where folks switched around button on the followers and if too thick or not wide ( big) enough,,will not push up the latch

It may also be worn/rounded on the engaging face if it was shot a lot and the previous owner always closed the bolt by pressing the slide lock instead of using the "slingshot" method to close the bolt on a fresh magazine.

I disassembled the gun this afternoon and gave it a good cleaning, paying particular attention to the bolt stop assembly. I could already feel the movement of the lever loosening up even before I reassembled it. Needless to say it now functions as new. I thought something may have been worn because another member of the rifle club has the same problem and two of the more knowledgeable club members told me on two separate occasions that they thought it was a wear issue.

I bought a used 10/22 and the bolt hold open would not work until I did a thorough cleaning. I don't think the original owner ever cleaned it. Recently I put some Hogue wrap arounds on my 22/45 and the slide stop quit working. The problem was the grips dragged on the bolt release just enough to prevent the slide stop from working. A quick snip to cut back the excess on the grip fixed it. So, as noted clean well and then looked for other causes.

+1 on previous comments. Will add to watch grips also. A few decades ago I put Pacs on my mk ll. They rubbed against the stop. Had to remove material from the grip and to this day I have to be careful about overtightening the adjacent grip screw...
