Mistake on Spent Casing Envelope?

Bought my gun online on 4/26/12, test fire date shown as 4/5/12. All info on the label on the envelope looks good except it shows the numger of turns as 1 in 10.00"?? I'm sure this is supposed to be 1 in 16" as are most .45 1911s and as shown in Ruger's spec sheet. I would think this information does not need to be entered every time a gun is test fired (unlike S/N or date) so I would think it to be an unlikely mistake, but if this info is automatically populated in whatever database Ruger uses to print these labels from then there must be more envelopes with this mistake on them. Does anyone else have an envelope that shows the turn rate as 1 in 10? Or am I just special (like my mom used to tell me as she was loading me onto the short bus :lol: )

Mine says 1-10 also, but its 1-16 RH twist. Most 1911s actually have a 1-16 LH twist. I'm not sure why right or left twist would mean anything.

The right or left twist could be a problem depending on what side of the equator your on. This question was brought up a long time ago in this forum. You might scroll back in history and see what was determined.

That only matters when you are firing 'downrange' When shooting 'uprange', it doesn't matter.

No, downrange requires a RH twist while uprange requires a LH, unless you're on the other side of the equator where it's just opposite. If you're actually on the equator, you would need no twist! ;)

I'm totally confused. Why would it make a difference depening on what side of the equator you are on? The RH or LH twist spins the bullet one way or the other to better stabilize it in flight, it shouldn't matter which way it spins. Thats like saying a left handed quarterback can only throw a pass on the other side of the equator... I know it doesn't matter if my arrows are fletched right wing helical or left wing, they both stabilize the arrows the same. Is there some chain yanking going on here? Show me da physics!

P.S. If I was shooting "uprange," would that mean the people behind the firing line would have to take cover unless I had a LH twist?"

Yep, I'm joking, just happy that I bought my SR today. BUT, water in a toilet will rotate the other way down under, it's called the Coriolus effect.

I pretty much figured you were joking, as was I with my uprange shooting... Sad to say I know way too many people would believe this and some that might even preach it. I do know that water drains the opposite direction down under. I would be fairly amused if someone was to seriously argue that direction of bullet spin would make a difference in other parts of the world.

Does this rule apply to trajectory too?.....meaning if you shoot the pistol held flat instead of upright, can you shoot around obstacles????? Actually had a fellow bowhunter tell me you can shoot around trees with a bow this way.....guess he never tested the theory, or payed attention in science class! :lol:

By the way, this is incorrect. The Coriolis Effect has no bearing on toilet water direction of rotation or any other drainage system! This is simply a matter of direction of momentum.
