Hello all,
New to loading lead bullets, and the .45 Colt cartridge in general. After reading many glowing reports about Missouri Bullet Co., I'd like to get some loading data for their bullets only, loaded to around 800 fps, for plinking and informal paper punching. My primary goal is to keep barrel leading to a minimum, so...what grain, what hardness, what velocity, how much leading as a result?

I'll be shooting both a USFA SAA 7-1/2" and a S&W Model 25-13 Mountain Gun 4". I already have a supply of Win 231 and Universal Clays powder, so loads using those would be a bonus. I also have the latest Speer, Hornady, and Lyman loading manuals, so if there any loads in those that you've used with Missouri bullets, I'd like to hear about those, too. I'll be using Redding carbide dies and a Lee factory crimp die in a Lee classic cast turret press.

Let's see, I think that about covers it...
Cheers,
Tom

I've used their bullets in .32 H&R mag, but not 45.

I do load a similar rnfp 250 grain bullet in 45 Colt with 6.5 - 6.8 grains of WW231.

I recently worked up some .45 Colt loads for the performance you're looking for using Missouri Bullet's 250gr LRNFP-BB bullet (Cowboy #1), BHN 12. COL is 1.580", and I used CCI 300 LP primers with Starline brass and a firm roll crimp. All rounds were fired from a 5-1/2" Ruger Bisley Blackhawk with no noticeable leading.

Trail Boss: 5.8gr gave 795 fps
VihtaVuori N340: 7.6gr gave 800 fps
IMR 4756: 8.7gr gave 810 fps

I particularly like the Trail Boss load as it fills enough of the case that a double charge would overfill the case and be extremely noticeable.

STANDARD DISCLAIMER: These loads were safe in my gun, but may not be in yours. Never trust any load data from the internet including (especially) mine. Start low and work up slowly, looking for signs of excessive pressure. You are responsible for your own health and safety.

Hodgdon's max loads of both W231 and Universal Clays shoot exceptionally well in my Blackhawk, Uberti Model P, and Mountain Gun, using MBC's 250 RNFP or 255 gr SWC, both BHN 12.

I posted additional details over in your THR post, but here's Hodgdon's data that I refer to:

Select bullet weight of 250. The "250 GR. CAST LRNFP" is the bullet you want.

By the way, the velocities they give in the table for the max load is nowhere near what I got in my guns. Neither of these loads broke 900 fps as they claim.

I started with their bhn 18 LSWC "for Elmer Keith Fans" and got some terrible leading in my 4 5/8" blackhawk. Reduced leading dramatically, although still haven't got it eliminated, by switching to the bhn 12 "cowboy load" LSWC (both 255gr). I liquid alox all of them, and have shot quite a few with Unique, ranging from 6.5gr up to 10.0gr. - the 9.5gr seems to be maximum that my gun (and my hand) like best. I don't have a chronograph, but printed data says I'm shooting from about 650fps up to about 850 or 900 with those Unique loads. Hope that helps some.
