Midway... Online Buying Issues...

I buy most of my guns online, provide an FFL to the seller, pay the FFL a commission to receive the gun, and it's a relatively painless affair.

Very recently, a cousin of mine in Idaho, purchased a Colt King Cobra from Midway. He paid Midway for the revolver, and provided the required FFL information.

A few days later, he was notified by Midway, the revolver could not be shipped, as the FFL chosen was not on Midway's list of "Licensed Colt Dealers".

Apparently none of the FFL's in Lewiston are on Midway's list of acceptable FFL's. And there were no FFL's within a 50-mile radius that were on Midway's list.

After some days of research, it was discovered that the FFL chosen was in fact a Colt dealer. But Midway would not relent. The sales department agreed with my cousin and the sale should proceed, but the shipping department would not agree. And apparently the sales and shipping departments do not talk to each other.

Bottom line, the purchase was cancelled. My cousin drove to Moscow and bought a different Colt revolver off the shelf. That dealer also was not on Midway's "list".

Anybody else have similar ordeals with Midway?

Not with Midway but another big popular internet seller... and I could not get my FFL on their 'approved' list... it seems it was not possible and other than Cabelas or such it is one of the biggest gun stores in my town... actually their inventory is probably 5 times bigger than Cabelas....

If Midway is acting as the retailer and is a Colt stocking dealer that should satisfy Colt. The receiving FFL is just transferring the Python, the sale went to Midway and they would be the stocking dealer. If this is the case then I believe Midway shipping dept. is incorrect.
If Midway is ordering and delivering straight from a distributor then they may have a obligation to only ship to a Colt stocking dealer.
I’m not sure if Midway has a walk-in gun shop but regardless I didn’t think Colt really cares in this situation. Their product is getting sold.

Sounds like Midway is a warehouse distributor for Colt and their contract with Colt requires them to ship only to Colt dealers.

I bought all my gun related stuff from them for 40 years, but they got to yuppie fer me and I quit them for good about 2 years ago.

Midway USE TO BE my goto BUT there are more user friendly options. Just the wonders of "too big to fail" or listen to the customer!

It’s easier for me to buy accessories from a local big box store.


For online gun sales, I’ve been VERY happy with Grab A Gun. And I’m fortunate enough to be able to buy a gun and pick it up in person from them. But I think their shipping is pretty cheap if not free.

Thanks for information on Grab a Gun. Used Midway for years starting in the late 80's but now I have to want it real bad to order from them.

My local dealer that I have guns shipped to would rather make the sale himself if it's a brand that he's an authorized dealer. He don't mind receiving and transferring used guns or ones that he couldn't sell new. I always thought that sounded reasonable to me. I wouldn't even ask him to receive a new gun that I didn't at least give him a chance at.

Here in CA you don't save by not buying from the local guy. They can charge any fee they want for receiving a gun for you, $50-150 is the norm. Plus add the fact that they now charge sales tax on all guns new or used and it removes online buying from being a money saver.

Want more frustration?, Try finding a Super GP100 in 9mm or 357 anywhere... My local FFL will receive guns with out any issues... I've yet to hear back from Ruger's CEO about the availability of the Super GP100's...

I tried to buy a holster from midway. They sent the wrong one. I returned it and called them and explained the mix-up and what I wanted. I followed their instructions. The same holster showed up the second time. I returned that one. They wanted me to write a review so I told them what idiots they were. The never posted that review. I only buy small items on sale now and only with free shipping. When they have an item with no price unless you put it into your cart, I usually ignore that item. If I want to know the price bad enough, I put lots of items in the cart but leave it there a long time then delete it. They seem to have no clue on how to market their ware.

Production is simply concentrating on the higher demand models which is just smart manufacturing. Use the resources so that they give the best results.
