Microsoft is still offering a free upgrade to Windows 10

Microsoft is still offering a free upgrade to Windows 10 through December 31st.
Not that I am any fan of Win 10, but thought some of you may have missed the free update before they extended it to December 31st. So here is your chance to get it free. :D

Supposedly it is so users who use any of the assistive technologies can upgrade to it.

the article's link is the word "updated" in this sentence: "Microsoft has quietly updated its site"

The download at the link does check your system to see if it is compatible. (at least on my older laptop just now)

I use Windows 7 at work, 8 in the garage, and 10 in the house. Because of some work stuff I have Internet Explorer as the default on my Windows 10 laptop so all three of the computers I use are virtually identical. To the casual computer user I see no real advantage of changing your current computer over to Windows 10. That being said, the Fall Creators Update 1709 was a disaster on my Windows 10 Dell Inspiron. The update took 5 hours and I had issues galore after that update. The solution was to go through all of my drivers and update them to the most current one, last night a Dell Update ran that did that exact thing so I'm guessing they're aware of the issue and fixes.

I upgraded to 10 but even though the upgrade said it was compatible with my printer and other devices, it wasn't. I tried downloading the latest device drivers and they still wouldn't work so I went back to what i had originally.

Like one person said, nothing seems to work well with it. You may have to get a new printer and if you have apps or other programs you like, they may not work.

I've got Windows 7 Pro; When I bought my laptop it had "vista" on it; What a piece of crap.

I could go on quite a while about the horrors I have been through "upgrading" (read "destroying") four laptops but frankly I am just too tired to go in to it.

If anyone decides to fall for the upgrade scam -- just don't say you weren't warned. I surely learned my lesson.

Maybe Bill Gates should have his driver stop in over the hill at Boeing and ask why they will not allow Windows 10 to be installed on any suppliers' systems(over 16,000 companies).
Quite a few IT professionals have quite a bit to say about Windows 10.
They all seem to call it a "glass house" that allows MS and their contractors to see every keystroke on a computer and operate cameras and microphones remotely without notification... Just the word from IT.
MS also ensures (via the "agreement" you hold them harmless should their software render your property useless or worse.
Not a rant, use it at your own risk.

Sounds like the word's out that Win 10 is but another cobbled together mess from MS--they don't give stuff away "for free" without some angle on getting into your wallet!

In the case of Win 10 on my machine, it suffers from the same problems Win 8 did, only worse: incompatibility with previous drivers, software, etc. I was lucky I 'spose: only had to abandon one of three printers that simply would not run on it, no matter what "fixes" I tried. And the interminable stuff it keeps doing "behind the scenes" keeps my Internet access slowed to a crawl several times a week. Can't figure out if it's updating or what. Virus/malware programs say they don't find anything. But since it took 18 hours to get everything "updated" on a BRAND NEW OUT OT THE BOX machine less than a year ago, I suspect MS has their (dirty) hands in this.

If you've still got Win 7 and it's working well, keep it that way! Or if you're dead set on Win 10, leave the Win 7 setup alone and get another computer with Win 10 factory installed. That way you'll still have a working backup!

The first issue you wish to trust is "Do i want to" "or "why do i want to" upgrade to Windows seven. Is there a bonus on behalf of me to try and do therefore considering my current usage profile? I recently browse a review examinationWindows XP with Windows seven employing a fairly organized laptop. Windows XP came ahead on some counts, Windows seven on others (but not by plenty in either case) except within the "multimedia" space wherever windows seven came any ahead. therefore i suppose if you're serious into transmission, maybe. The variations apart from this once more exhibit the question "Should I upgrade to Windows 7" because the gain appearance borderline. This leaves practicality. "Is there any additional practicality in Windows seven that i could gain advantage of" initial one ought tocontemplate that a lot of new options in Windows seven (like ISO image burning) you almost certainly already use alternative programs. Paint for instance has been jazzed up in Windows seven, however you almost certainly already use far better graphics programs.

I don't trust Micro$haft's updates for Windows 10. The last big update they rolled out last winter crashed my new HP All-In-One hard and killed the internal wi-fi driver. It cost me nearly a hundred dollars for a local tech to diagnose and repair the problem, and I'm now using an external wi-fi driver because the OEM driver is toast. Never have been able to get the brand-new "Micro$haft Windows 10 compatible" Canon printer to work with the HP since it crashed, either.

Then another "major update" last weekend turned off all my wi-fi settings and I had to go in and reload everything. And I thought Vista was buggy. :roll:

The liberal Gates has always used his customers to do free R&D for him.
Keep moaning but keep "upgrading".
His time is money, your time, not so much.
When win 11 comes out (for probably $400) it will be win 10 with ALL the "improvements" made by listening to your stories of horror, crashes, incompatibility, etc. etc.
He's made billions playing his customers. He knows that people are too busy or lazy to learn Linux.
(I am included here, so don't get whatever, sometimes the truth hurts).
Who knew how to use win 3.1 when they turned on that new 286 for the first time 20 years ago?
You had to go out and buy a 20 or 30 dollar book to figure it out.
No one wants to "start over" learning a new OS.
Funny how people were so eager to learn Android though. (Ahh that's right.. there was no windows for phones when "smart" phones came out).
Sure, many people HAVE switched to Linux, but not enough to put a dent in his monopoly.
So, while he struts around the globe doing his part to ruin the country, keep working for free for him.
Same with "social" media.. all filthy rich ultra liberals out to change the world to their liking.

I bought a new HP computer a couple years ago. It came with Windows 8. To be honest I don't know one Windows from the other.
The stepson who's getting a degree in computers through the Army was here.
He had been using windows 10 and really liked it so we did mine. I'm glad I did it's been real good and easy to use even for a computer novice like me. I want to say we did end up replacing our printer but it was an older one anyway. I know our cameras were compatible with it. We liked it so much we even upgraded to Windows 10 on my older laptop the wife took over. She's not on it like I am but she has never complained that we upgraded hers.
