Do any members here have experience with the Marlin Model 883 .22 WMR? If so, please share some of your insights (positive or negative). Thanks!

I’ve had a couple over the years. No problems that I can remember. Seems like one of the Marlin bolt action .22 models had a safety that worked “backwards” from the typical manner, so pay attention to that.

I hav had several and been around lots of them. The older ones are hands down the best value 22 magnum on the market, Period. Great accuracy. I just never needed a rifle between 22LR and 223’s

I have a pristine copy of it's older brother, the 783. Because it's older, it has the bullseye walnut stock as the main difference (usually). I had a 25MN (later than an 883 and magazine feed) first. I sold it for too much and wanted to find a replacement but I prefer the tube feed and walnut so I found this and mounted a new Vortex scope.

I was lucky to find it locally just before Marlin prices skyrocketed.

I had a Marlin bolt 22 WMR but don't remember the model. +1 on the 'backward' safety and I had numerous feeding issues. Back then, not many ammo options and NONE gave the accuracy I wanted.
Finally traded it for an H&R semi-auto 22 WMR that was even less accurate but at least it fed cartridges consistently.

Like above I had the 783 back around 1973 which am sure is similar to the 883. Beautiful walnut stock and gold plated trigger and came with a scope and sling too. Bought new for around $75. Got stolen unfortunately. I think the 783 came out around 1971. Model 883 around 88-89

Thanks for all for the responses. My LGS got one in that looks to be in very good condition. Comes with a 3-9X40 scope mounted, nicely grained walnut stock with no significant finish issues on either wood or steel. Serial number indicates a 1995 production. Asking price is about half of what TrueGunValue.com says is average. Looks like its gonna have a new home for Christmas!

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

If it has the same action as the Marlin 25 (box mag vs tube mag), mine never worked right. Switched to a Mossberg 640KD Chuckster and never looked back.

Good to hear C3. The ole walnut is tough to beat especially if it has some figure to it. Briefly had a 925M but dumped it quick when I scored the Ruger Compact American 22 mag. Nice and light. Might add the synthetic black stock and glossy bluing on the Ruger beat that birch hardwood of the 925M.

I’ve always wanted a
.22 mag lever action. But cant rationalize it. I don’t know why I let that stop me.

I don’t really need anything between .22lr and .308. Lol.
