Mark III 22/45 muzzle crown

I have a new Mark III 22/45 and notice that the barrel has no crown on it. Seems to shoot okay but I don't like the idea of it being machined totally flat across the muzzle. I am thinking about using one of K W Hart's muzzle crown lapping tools and putting a very small crown on the barrel. Has anyone used one of these crown lapping tools or something like it?

My first question is; How does it shoot?
I tend to prefer to see how a firearm performs before I start trying to improve upon it.

The pistol seems to shoot just fine. Perhaps much better than I can. I have a red dot sight on it so "me" being able even tell the difference between not having or having a crown probably would not happen. The though of doing this to the muzzle is not so much to improve the accuracy but to prevent any damage to it. Knowing "me" I will probably be screwing things on and off of the muzzle threads. I have already made a false muzzle so I can clean it from the muzzle end. There is also a possibility of the cleaning patch catching and tearing on the sharp edge of the bore. I would just feel better about the whole thing if I could put a small crown on the bore.

I wouldn't bother with the crown. The only time I've crowned or recrowned is if the muzzle is buggered up.

I wouldn't worry about crowning unless you're a real klutz (then you shouldn't be handling loaded guns anyway!) or use steel cleaning rods from the muzzle end. A long-enough (9 inch or so) non-steel rod will reach to clean it safely from the rear.

I use the standard aluminum Hoppe's pistol rod, which reaches perfect from the bolt end of the upper. Sometimes at the range I use a 6 inch Dewey loop-end brass rod, which only works at the muzzle.

Either way, both are softer than the steel barrel and can't hurt anything with normal use.

Same rods are used on my Single-Six, which can only be cleaned from the muzzle. My Bearcats and Bobcats both get a four inch Dewey rod.
