Tried the search and obviously not real good at it. What are the options available to convert a mark3 to 17mach2? Volquartsen is all I have found so far. Is that it? Kind of pricey if so! Does it shoot as good as the price? Will pay it if so.

My .17 pistol came from Kimber (no longer made), but Scott Volquartsen's products rarely disappoint in terms of function or accuracy.

I have two .17 HM2s from him, a 10/22 barrel & bolt (mated to a standard 10/22 receiver) and a complete VQ rifle. Both run great and are capable of terrific accuracy.

A local gunsmith converted a couple and got great accuracy, He kept adding weight to the bolt and end result was pretty uggly but accurate. He has since retired. I had a Volquartsen 17 hummer (rifle) that was extremely accurate.

Seems counter productive to expect top performance of the 17HM2 from a short handgun barrel.

Barrel lengths being equal you'll get better precision and terminal performance with the 17HM2 than the 22LR ... regardless of barrel length.

In the interest of becoming better informed, I for one would appreciate links to sources that can support this assertion.

While the 17 HMR round in the fine Savage

is extremely accurate in windless conditions, I am disappointed that the slightest puff of wind has such large effect on that pin point performance.

Don't know the real world performance advantages of H2/handgun vs 22LR. I don't know anyone who has become enthusiastic the H2...although that doesn't really mean much. My club doesn't allow the 17s in Steel Challenge, another disadvantage for my own use.

My 17M2 Charger really rips up gophers and is much more accurate than the same length barrel in .22LR.

A MKIII in 17 M2 would be interesting.
