After installing a new Wolf main spring, I noticed the pin that slides inside the spring has a straight edge on one side up toward the top and a slanted edge on the other side. Can you guys tell me which side faces trigger or if it even matters? Thanks!

Yes, it does matter. The angular end with the ball shape goes into the hammer and the straight end goes into the guide at the bottom of the grip post.

Carefully test your work. I put a "lighter" mainspring in my Dad's SP and experienced some misfires.

I just got my Ruger SP101 spring set from Brownells. I first put in the 9# spring. It seemed to work ok until I changed the trigger return spring that came with the kit. Then I had many misfires, so I put in the 10# spring. Same thing, still getting misfires. I then put in the 12# spring. So far the 12# is working fine, but not near the improvement that I hoped for. As flatgate said, check everything carefully before trusting it.

the first time I dis-assembled my SP101, I made a copy of the "useful" part of the manual, and hand drew my own sketches of the parts and direction/orientation of them as they were removed....also notes about special manipulation of parts. Hanging onto those type of notes has helped me for many years :wink:

Thanks! That's what I was asking. I put a new grip on and it was a PTA. I don't want to take it off and go through that again. I had a 50/50 chance with the mentioned pin. It seems to work fine now but I can't remember which way I positioned it. What are the effects if it's backwards?
